Just after I took that photo I got a 'quick diag' job, 16 plate S class with aircon issues (again) it originally came in for aircon problems in July - faulty pressure sensor but also a leaking hose and noisy electric compressor - on a hybrid... did a quick check, loss of refrigerant, likely the condenser (we do a lot on the S class), anyway, the driver sees me dumping it back in the carpark and vectors on an intercept, 'so, what's the problem?' it's got a refrigerant leak... 'but I've just paid to have <bits previously mentioned> replaced' Well it need the leak tracing, likely to be the condenser but needs confirming. 'It's supposed to be the best car on the road' really? where did you hear that? 'The salesman....' Oh, right.... well, nothing lasts forever. 'What do you drive then?' <points to LR> That. 'Oh....' End of conversation...

Today the Volvo got some money spent on it...
I'd bought a spacesaver spare the other day so I can give my present one back to my brother, but had to make sure it fitted OK and cleared the brakes. In doing so I noticed the front tyre I'd taken off was a bit low on tread on the inner edge.
As mentioned in another thread, the front tyres on the car were mismatched after a coil spring failed in May. The one that was a bit low was a "Roadstone" brand tyre, so I decided to go looking for how much a tyre to match the Falken on the other side of the car would be. A job that wasn't exactly easy given the size if a bit of an oddball (225/45/17s).
Fortunately, Demon Tweeks in Wrexham had the right Falken in stock for £80 a corner fitted. That was a good £30 cheaper than the same tyre online so it worked out nicely.

Made it back without any assistance! Only issue is a recurring whiff of engine oil burning off - thought the turbo oil drain gasket had sorted it, apparently not! Needs further investigation, parts darts is currently favouring the cam cover/inlet manifold gasket.... we'll see...
Just to prove it was Yorkshire There was a decent view there a minute ago!
Sod it, have a brew - Yorkshire tea, obvs.

The Smolvo went in for a proper dealer service and MOT yesterday. It was a "major" service so cost £450 all in for oil + filter, cabin and air filters, spark plugs and the usual going over and MOT. The benefits are that it should keep the remaining 5 months of my Volvo Selekt used car warranty all happy and it gives me a year's Volvo breakdown assist.
I've also tried running the old girl on E5/Super Unleaded for the last couple of tankfuls. I have to say that it doesn't seem to be making a massive performance or economy difference. Plan is to see if it falls on its face if I stuff some E10 in it after a run to Birmingham on the weekend.

Got a few updates to post (sorry for the length)... OUT: 2020 Golf 1.6TDI in black. Replace with an SQ5 (see below). CURRENT DAILY: 2018 Golf GTD in white (manual box). Just like this (not my car as it's currently filthy): Bought with 25k miles and currently on 65k (in 18 months). I'm loving this car and really can't see myself selling it. It does everything really well: - Economic (45mpg min even driven like a knob) - A decent turn of speed - Handles very well - Suspension is very comfy - Cheap to run (compared to what I'm used to at work!) - All the toys inside. Carplay is a must for me - I spend at least 2 hours a day in it so I use that time to catch up on calls/messages/emails. - Just looks like a golf to most people. I would have preferred it in a darker colour but you can't have everything. NEW PURCHASE: 2018 Audi SQ5 (bought with 45k on the clock) The other half wanted an SUV and I wanted something special for the weekend. Instead of buying two cars I combined the two. Only had it a fortnight - it's very quick and very thirsty! Lovely inside but a bit too sporty to drive everyday (the other half only does 5 mile trips in it. Pics are from when I was offered it (plate has been changed). WORK IN PROGRESS: Ferrari F430 I still own this and it hasn't turned a wheel in over 18 months. Currently on the lift in the middle of a conversion from paddle shift to manual transmission. I'm determined to get this finished this winter! NEW PURCHASE: Ferrari 360 in baby blue. Stock pic - it doesn't look like this at the moment! Offered to me as an incompleted project. It was cheap and needs a lot of work (including paint - I'm thinking of changing the colour to a darker blue). Engine and box are out of the car at the moment. A project for 2024 (or beyond!) Other vehicles in the fleet: 2017 Berlingo Van - bought new into the business and still going strong (85k miles ATM). 2010 Suzuki Swift - an old hack that I keep around to lend to clients I like 2008 Toyota Prius - given to me in return for getting it gone. Needed £300 of work to get it roadworthy. Use it for lending to clients. We've already had the cat pinched in London!! 2010 Saab 9-3 TTDi - bought from the other halves Dad for £600. He had it from new but it wasn't ULEZ. Only £35 a year to tax so cheap to keep around.

They're very excitable - like 10 year olds that've been fed too many Smarties.. not at all nice to work alongside!
