Well, its here... View AttachmentFirst impressions are that its a little softer and less agile than the Focus, but the interior is light years ahead in fit and finish. The engine hustles well once you get it wound up and the turbo spooled, but its also a decent cruiser. The only issue I can see is that the car is complaining that the battery is low, but the only thing that currently affects is the Stop-Start, so we'll see how a few days of use settles it down before I complain about it. Sorry rhyds wasn't aware you had a new motor. That looks well tidy enjoy. Thanks chief. I'm slowly getting used to having a car with lots of shiny buttons and really nice seats. In fact, I jumped back in to my MK2 focus earlier to move it and it felt quite a step down in comparison. The only real complaints are the boot is a lot smaller than the Focus (mainly due to being a fair bit shallower) and there's no way to tell on the dashboard if the headlights are on or off, so you kind of have to keep them on automatic

Are you able to disable the stop/start function permanently or temporarily if so required? I can on the Tiguan there's a button you press for on/off stop start system. It's not possible to permanently disable this feature on my VW so I have to disable if every time I enter the vehicle which isn't ideal but I have got used to it.

The stop start has sorted itself out after a few long trips. It has an override button for the S/S and unlike some motors doesn't have a "nag" light on the dash to remind you its turned off.

Today's fleet job was getting the ole Focus ready for its new owner (my little brother). This involved giving it a good cleaning out as well as going through the various storage nooks and crannies to get everything cleared out.
It'll be a shame to see it leave, but it'll serve my brother well hopefully, and with a bit of luck we can shift his old Rover 25 for a few quid's beer money

If it's in good nick and he can afford to keep it tucked away it may/could make more money in five or even ten years time. I've just had a quick butchers on How Many Left and some models are quite low no in Q4 of 2022.

Its a 2002 1.4 84PS version in metallic gold, so not a particularly rare model. The problem is he has nowhere to keep it and if you were going to keep a 25 "for best" then there are many better ones out there.
As it happens, a lad at my work needs a new motor as his previous one's been written off, so he's happy to buy it from us.

I think I have the newest surviving R25 (actually a Streetwize) on my books. I really must get around to sending the photos off to the Rover Sports Register. It's suffered a bit on Skye for all its life, but then some mad local garage came along and gave it a lease-of-life.......

Was that the one you sourced a replacement subframe for? Those later facelift models are apparently somewhat variable in build quality, moreso than the earlier models.

Yes, I sourced quite a few bits for this over the course of 2.5 year - subframes front and rear of engine-bay, suspension, etc. etc. as well as doing the welding on the brake-pipe support bracket at the back of the engine-bay.
I think I have got it "stable" now, and it's just a case of keeping on top of the new items as they appear.
Build-quality? Utterly atrocious. The Phoenix management want locking-up for what they did to the cars.

Bit of an update on this. The stop-start still wasn't 100% after some long trips so I went looking online for some answers. It seems that on the V40 you can look in the infotainment system and it will tell you if the stop-start is available or not, and if not, why. Turns out mine was complaining about battery voltage and the fact the driver was unbelted (hence why didn't work when I'd get home and get out to open the garage). It also transpires the car's got a second battery (motorbike size) hidden behind the front bumper for the stop-start Either way, it seems that a couple of hours on an AGM-compatible battery charger and resetting the battery monitor has fixed the problem.

The ole/new Volvo is still behaving, though has recently had a coming together with a 4-legged woolly creature. Fortunately damage seems to be light and should only need a new lower grille. Shockingly it was the Volvo dealer that could supply one at the best price (£65 inc vat) and with quickest delivery. Ebay wanted around £70 for a used or non OE one and delivery would be a week.

Seems to be a common discovery with Volvo's. Even older ones can throw a few surprises like this - dealers are able to undercut some of the "mercenary" prices asked by likes of Skandix, etc.

Aye, its an odd feeling as usually with my cars (Ford, MG Rover) online suppliers were leigon and good value for OE bits.
Only downside for me is the dealer's up in Chester, so a fair old drive to get odds and ends

I managed to fit the new grille on friday night. Annoyingly I think I managed to scratch the bumper while doing it, but hopefully I can polish that out. The job was actually pretty straightforward, as the front bumper simply screwed/clipped on. The hard part was that the grille seemed to be the first part fitted to the bumper, so needed the other clip-in trim and other kit moved out of the way to get it in.
The embrassaing part however was after finishing the job I was happily vegging out on my sofa at 10:30pm when I suddenly thought "what did I do with the nail I used to block off the headlamp wash tube?"
A good search with the torch was unsuccessful, and then I had the idea of giving the bumper a light thump...
Well, dear readers, seems I'd left it sitting tidily in the bumper undertray, and luckily only needed to peel the wheelarch liner back to get it out!
