Because the flash given off from a nuclear explosion is so bright, that even today, the Japanese still squint...

Don't know why the images are blurry? Because you've uploaded them from a phone.

I can't take credit, it was a physics teacher in the 70's that told us that - unfortunately I remembered the comment more than the details of nuclear fission

I can't take credit, it was a physics teacher in the 70's that told us that - unfortunately I remembered the comment more than the details of nuclear fission Why can't teachers be cool like they used to be? I have fond memories of so many really good teachers, but political-correctness was not top of their agenda back then - and so much better for it.
1) The History teacher who dealt with "chatty girls" by tying them up to the pillars in the middle of the temporary classrooms, like Indian squaws, for the duration of the lesson.
2) The woodwork teacher who used to "tomahawk" chisels across the classroom at anyone making a pig's ear of the assignment they were on
3) The English teacher who took the whole class out into the countryside for a walk, just to appreciate the environment in which Thomas Hardy had written
4) The other English teacher that wrote permission-notes to the headmaster for a number of lads to go to the NEC Motor Show (in term-time, on a weekday) in order to skip all lessons for that day, because "It will be something they will remember for the rest of their lives" - it was 1978, the first one there. And we were all complete petrol-heads, the lot of us, including that teacher (lots of Rovers). And we all still remember that trip (those that still send cards at Xmas)
5) The Maths teacher that used to let a few of us use her classroom after school to load our assembler-code onto the very-primitive computers, without supervision, just trusted us to behave ourselves (we did, although it was a physical fight between 5 lads to use 2 computers before each "session")
6) The Latin teacher (actually History, but she doubled-up as a language tutor for after-school) who kept the lessons going throughout the work-to-rule in the late-70's by inviting us around to her house to continue

valhallaWhen I was at school and very young - one of the kids got caught with his shorts down - inserting things into himself. Dinner lady marched him off. At the end of the lunch break - the girls were sent into the school building. Our headmaster - lined up all us young boys in the small school yard and gave us the best bit of advice ever at the top of his voice. I quote - "you are young boys and will become young men - things should only come out of your bum - nothing should ever go up it". ------ Sound lifetime advice given - I have adhered to for all of my life. But he would in this day and age - been sacked for this single act.

How lucky we were to have had an upbringing with equal amounts of love and discipline to become the people we are? I wonder what happened to the young boy- what became of him, maybe a tale of misery or someone who overcame early adversity to become a fine citizen whether that be wealthy or p*ss poor?

Still slightly off topic……Anyway, cars are borin…especially leccy ones… We had a French teacher, Mr. Peterson, who used to like showing us his holiday snaps instead of actually teaching us…. Then there was another teacher, can’t remember his name… ( must be my age… ) he used to play his guitar in class instead of getting on with the lesson…and it wasn’t even a music class!

I used to sit for hours in the class storeroom with emery cloth cleaning up bits of classic motorcycle parts for “Slaphead” Slater - another psychotic teacher that should never have been. He did have a nice brace of Alfas though

Wig wearer, we’ll wig balancer really 😂 I caught it with my elbow once as I stood beside him reading out loud, off his shoulder, onto his pate, standing dashing to the toilets for adjustment. Knew about 3 sentences in French, used to glance at his finger nails as he spoke them (as if he was a pro) 😂

Lad in question got into body building and steroids - started working the doors - abused the steroids so much he got diabetes. Then got ill - lost a shed load of weight - body mass. Then started on drugs - was putting Skag in one arm for a fix and insulin in the other to keep him alive - died of Ketamine overdose before he got to 30yrs old. Sadly his older Sister and his younger brother all died on of drugs overdoses - only the middle sister (attractive one but wired to the moon) is still alive - she works in Tescos as a till supervisor.
