Given the high profile of e vehicles….well cars.. and to a lesser degree vans… I haven’t t heard of any plans for e hgv’s…or was I asleep at that presentation? Round our way, there a few on the estate that have taken up ev’s or phev….we see the odd delivery van that is leccy…( a milk float dressed up as a van… ) but hgv’s are still diesel powered….rolling up at the supermarkets and various shops… Anyone know different? My local truck-driver is a "bit of a character" - you have to be, driving fish-farm lorries on our single-track roads with tourists all over the place - and he has seen a lot of changes over the 50years he has been driving big vehicles in the UK. His mobile phone has a screensaver on it - Volvo HGV BEV test-vehicle. Broken down and being suspended from the back of a recovery unit in a layby.
I get the impression that many drivers are not too enthusiastic about the thought of having one of these forced on them. Although, thinking bout it, it should make tacho-compliance fairly easy, as most journeys over 4hours are going to need a significant break at-least once.

Love our electric car (Enyaq).
Our 12yr old Octavia diesel was costing £10 a day to drive to work inside the city “emissions” charging zone, so we needed to change it. It was costing £300 per month all-in to run, and I was anticipating a big bill for the DPF at some point because my wife kept using it for short journeys. So, decided to change it.
Looked at my options, and for £350 a month all-in, I have an Enyaq on a 3yr lease. Sold the old Octavia (£5k).
The Enyaq is super quiet - which is really great as both my wife and youngest son are deaf and wear hearing aids. We can all hear each other talking in the electric car, which isn’t always the case in ICE cars.
Charging isn’t a problem, because we have a charger at home (£700) and we just stick the car on charge overnight when the range gets low.
We have my Land-Rovers for any longer journeys that we need to do - such as holidays.
Having said that, we like the electric car, and have sometimes chosen to use it in preference to my Land-Rovers. With kids, we have to stop every couple of hours for toilets, food a leg stretch. We’ve not had any problems finding a fast charger to sling the car on for 30mins whilst we are stopped, which gets enough range in the battery for another 2hrs driving.
Each to their own, and all that, but we love our BEV.

If it fits in with your lifestyle, then why not - it's the 'change your lifestyle to fit in with this' that I can't agree with. I must admit, I'm not one for stopping on long journeys, I drove from Dunkirk to Marseille with one fuel stop (and back!) quite a few times, but the journey was a 'means to an end' rather than part of the 'experience'. I suppose seeing them in work (repeatedly in some cases) does knock some of the gilding off the lily, I would add that we've had three Toyota hybrids traded in over the weekend, all for ICE vehicles...

They are no more environmentally friendly than any thing else
Not sure why that is even a debate
aren’t there main purpose to improve air quality
Of which I think should be pretty clear
Don’t get the green angle

Saw this, thought of this thread....
2022 EQB, 13800 miles - no cracks in the front tyres but the inner & outer edges of both rear tyres (the driven wheels) are cracking, apparently it happens when the driver is 'enthusiastic' at junctions etc. Merc. are aware but there is no plan to address the issue beyond a handbook supplement - the same goes for the abnormal wear on the tyre edges on the EQC (and other marques too, to be fair) - still, it's not all bad news, the brake pads will outlast the brake discs

I just had three days in a posh hotel in Suffolk.
I kid you not - in a row of cars parked - 12 in a row - dozen I counted them. Mine was the only diesel. The rest were PHEVS/BEVS. All were owned by the look of it - by newly retired people. All were new ish (under three years old or had vanity plates on them).
My 62 plate VW Passat DSG highline estate - looked a bit out of place (it did not bother me at all).

Not one charging point on the hotel car park - I did look as I was outside in the car park smoking a lot. It don't bear thinking about - charging a BEV on holiday in a rural place - It is bad enough paying for carparks - using apps and cards - for car parks that don't take cash - Suffolk is full of car parking meters with no coin slots. Filled my Passat estate up the day before I went and came back with over half a tank - so could have done the trip and running about twice without hunting a garage out.

I take great delight ( smug git….) knowing my Passat with a full tank will do 600+ miles against any leccy car… bring it on.. Don’t know if any of you saw in the news earlier in the week about Renault and some Chinese outfit developing a new car/engine factory in the uk….turning their backs on ev’s…..thin end of the wedge? Maybe the bubble has burst?

Yep, the Renault hybrid looks interesting, hopefully it'll kickstart a few 'me-too' projects.
The new Smarts are BEV's - Mercedes are distancing themselves commercially, it's essentially a Geely / Volvo product with its own standalone marketing, diagnostics and supposedly technicians - but still sold through Merc. dealers, well, some... we have the 'pleasure' of being the outlet for them, despite our DP trying to get it passed off to another dealer in the region. I for one will be calling them Octothorpe models not 'hash' (although you'd probably need to be smoking some to consider buying one!) They seem to have gone the way of Mini's once BMW had them redesigned - all (questionable) style and no substance...

Geely is Chinese is it not? I think they own Volvo now? No sure? Car makers change owners like dealing hands of cards now!

Correct - they do, for now - Volvo are trying to buy themselves out of the mire though....
