As my inlaws have just found out today: Audi A1 2012 1.6 tdi broke down..Needs a new (piezo) injector replaced. Price all in 810quid..And they've been forewarned it may need more work.. But I keep getting told is has free road tax and the parking permit is 15 quid instead of 75quid for my Mitsubishi Colt....They do 20 to 30 miles a week! I keep telling them to buy a small petrol but will they listen, will they heck?! No use knocking if nobody in.

Even with 10% on the parts - plus assuming they were charged an hours labour to diagnose. It makes the labour £100 plus VAT. Free road tax is not looking so good now is it? Buying a small petrol car has never looked so better. Spark plugs are still cheap - and I have never failed to extract one either. It had a jammed o/s/r door...I managed to get it open and lubed/drowned the handle and latches/catches...Since doing that it unlocks every second try..You can unlock it manually with the interior handle..So they want it fixed by the garage..I expect it'll need a new door card @ 400quid fitted?

I reckon Remmington is very close. Perhaps a year or two later: 1991?

How...?Aged 22. In the summer of 1989 - I bought a 1985 C reg red Ford Orion 1.6D It was the first diesel car I had ever owned. So thus I was interested in the price of fuel! Very good car actually - 58MPG - 50HP ish - 90mph flat out - bought it off a customer who had dinged the front wing. Put a wing on and painted it. Even thou it had indirect diesel injection - it would start first time everytime.

Closed on a Sunday, and there are few, if any Sainsbury stores in Scotland...........So it makes it pre-Sunday trading laws.....
I also had my first diesel-engined car in 1989, but it was a bit more exotic than Remmington's; a 1974 LWB Ser_III Landrover, 2.25ltr. 90mph was a little beyond its capabilities; when I drove it home from the sale, I joined the M6 just South of Hilton Park, and with the slip-road down onto the motorway, I was just able to ease the old boy over 40mph.....
