FFS, just when you think you've seen it all! Looks a big heavy trailer on a sturdy thick chassis....?

I forced myself to watch 'Long Way Up' where McGregor & co. were using electric bikes and a Rivian pickup truck, to prove an unknown point whilst topping up their pension pots... They fannied around plugging into peoples houses etc. for a while, then just seemed to give up, using the 'support vehicles' (two LWB Sprinter type vans) to either pull the bikes & pickup along or dig out the generators to put some charge into them - and then moaned a lot about how the world wasn't prepared and how the BEV manufacturer had 'donated' some charging points along the route 'for future generations' - I wonder where they are now....

geoffbuyscars and the Macmaster on YouTube have been proving, week-in, week-out, recently what a pointless exercise BEV's are. They have now done two quite-different long-distance journeys, and it's clear that an old mid-2000's diesel trounces the nearly-new BEV on every measure.
One thing to come out of the Macmaster's side of the posting is how often the EVangelists (their description, not mine) "flame" him at every juncture. He got to the point on the last journey of pointing-out how unsafe he feels by these maniacs when he stops at a charging-point, and they recognise him from his Vlogging. The thing is, he owns this BEV, he has lived with it for quite a while now, appreciates it for what it does do well, but he is a realist when it comes to operating and relying on it over longer distances.
The "Fully Charred Show" fraternity just hate him, because we have a down-to-earth owner of (admittedly quite a nice bit of metal) Porsche that tells the truth as he sees it. Whenever he posts any of this stuff, he gets "flamed" and told he isn't using the car correctly, doesn't plan his journeys properly, isn't being intelligent enough.....
So we have a meritocratic minority of EVangelists who are really turning people off these sorts of cars for city-driving : Who wants to be associated with the left-liberal-swivel-eyed-lunatic fringe ?

"Forced myself" I should have said forced myself past the first 20 minutes of virtue signalling and Boorman being an oily tick, I guessed it was all going to be manufactured and I suppose you need to watch it all to know just how right you were. Besides, its difficult to get a proper harrumph session going without having those two twits helping you build up a head of steam...

Walked through Tesco car park park today to cut through to a DIY store, which entails walking past the EV charge points.
Was 5 degrees, very miserable bloke sat there in a cold car staring at his dashboard whilst it's being charged. I didn't know whether to laugh or feel pity for him.

Serves him right…,no sympathy from me….( not an advocate of milkfloats dressed up to look like cars..) It’s all about choices….innit? I’ll stick with my smoke belchingdieselguzzlingairpollutingleccycarbeatingmileageeating Volkswagen Passat…….

Our EV works fine for us. We’ve only charged it away from home half-a-dozen times in the past year (8,000 miles). The vast majority of charges have been done on our home charger.
It’s fast, comfortable and easy to drive. We can ask it to be at the interior temperature we want 15mins before we want to get in it (regardless of whether it’s plugged in or not).
I can see why EVs don’t suit some people, but for other people they are absolutely perfect.
I have a thirsty polluting Defender as well as the EV. The pair of them cover all our needs.

Our EV works fine for us. We’ve only charged it away from home half-a-dozen times in the past year (8,000 miles). The vast majority of charges have been done on our home charger. I think that has been the crucial conclusion on every test and comparison I have seen; if you charge it at home, and can get away with doing just that (for the majority of journeys) then one of these BEV's is perfect for the household. So all those people who live within a small radius of their work & play venues, and can put one of these on the front drive near a charging-socket, are laughing all the way to the bank.
It's those odd occasions where you need to go more than 50miles at short-notice that you need to fall-back onto something ICE/hybrid.
For me, a BEV would be a white-elephant. My journeys are infrequent, but long-distance. I also pull a trailer with 2tonnes and more on most of those journeys I do. I don't always have a choice about when I leave in the day (or night) and travel through wilderness for 50miles at a time.
For me, there can only be one, new vehicle I would consider buying - INEOS Grenadier. Back in the real-world of constrained finances, there is only one vehicle I can depend-upon - 300Tdi Defender. It has to be one vehicle (mainly) because the more you have standing-around here on the West Coast, the bigger your bill each year for brake components.........

I think the important phrase there is 'back in the real world of constrained finances' - which is why I don't have a BEV or (preferably) hybrid for the work commute and a LR for everything else.
