2005 Honda Jazz...
Exhaust pipe cut thru on Tesco's car park at 9.30am in the morning. Best Police can offer is a crime number.
Needs:
Front pipe - Cat - two O2 sensors - middle section - two rubbers - and fitting kits. Plus MIL light reset.
What we have here - is a little old ladies car with 44.000 miles on the clock - insurance claim will "write it off" - but the well looked after car - has a higher personal value and worth than it's "book value".
If I do it with an aftermarket cat - pipes and NGK sensors - the bill will be expensive. Plus the lady won't have such a good car after the repair - than before.
This sort of thing annoys me - no end!

There was a news article shared on Facebook recently where a cat thief was found squashed to death under a car.
I wont lie, it made me smile.

Its a crying shame, good servicable little car reduced to scrap in 10 minutes for a bit of drug money, no doubt Annoys me - it does If I put an aftermarket CAT - two NGK sensors on it - it will never be as good as the Honda CAT/sensors it came out of the factory with. If I go for Honda dealer parts - the car is scrap. If I repair it within the insurers budget - the MIL light may be on in less than year. Be honest - you will laugh at this. I would rather buy the "druggy" a bag of heroin - than have to explain this to the nice little old lady - who owns the Honda Jazz. We are talking a nice 65 year old plus - retired woman - dressed in Marks and Spensers clothing - who is always polite to us... No... I will make a statement here - the scrote can have a 10kg bucket of free - 100% pure skag. He would not last the first day - all his dreams come true. "Have the lot mate - fill your boots - its good stuff" RIP... Edit: Harsh I know - but the Police refused to entertain the idea of reviewing the CCTV at Tescos carpark for footage at 9.30am in the morning! That is broad daylight - in a busy carpark. They jacked car up - crawled under car with a battery cutter - risky I know - someone could have caught them in the act and beat them.

Honda CATS ex Factory have Rhodium in them - Number 45 on the atomic scale - more precious than Gold/Platinum/Palladium - just Googled it.
Love Google - you can find out anything - learn anything.

Apparently Hybrid Toyotas are also targeted due to the cats being very big and very expensive. Peter Simpson (ex CM Magazine editor) has had the one off his prius stolen twice!

And, of course, this is exactly where I have been with trying a cat for the CR-V just this side of Xmas. They just don't do them anymore, hence even owners must be tempted to cut them off other cars!
I might have convinced the owners, in my case, to let sleeping cats lie, as my prophecy that the MIL would stay out for a wee while after I cleared the "lazy code" has proven to be 100% correct. In other words, they are prematurely panic'ing.....

Years ago we had a problem with people nicking ECUs off Fiesta XR2s (its a long time ago so I assume they were reaching up from under the car) ,one of the lads made a device out of sheet steel with sharp teeth to rip their theiving hands off

I'm not sure where I've seen it - probably in the News section of CM that last month or so - but one company is offering a heavy-duty catalyst shield that encases the relevant area of the DPF or catalyst, to prevent theft. It uses locking keys (available to the motor trade) that have to be used when removing the shield and replacing it back on the car afterwards.
It strikes me that any enterprising owner/garage could make a heavy guard out of 14guage steel (or thicker) to bridge under the vehicle, however the bigger problem is heat-dissipation around the exhaust system with this sort of thing fitted, as DPF's can easily exceed 1000celcius when they are lit-up, and if the radiated heat cannot be mitigated by a good airflow, it's going to make the carpets a bit warm......
