Right guys, a few have you have seen my escort cabrio before on the other forum, I will upload a bit of my project thread to show you some of the stages its been in. Thats how it looked when I first purchased the car, that winter I had some restoration work done to the door frames, I fitted escort cosworth front brakes. I then in my infinite wisdom decide to fit the engine management system from a sierra cosworth to give me efi, this proved to be a big and very expensive mistake, I had nothing but trouble with it from the start, After more trouble than I care to relive the final straw for the cossie management was when it started randomly switching off while driving, the fuel pump still worked and the ecu was powered, but as it was intermittent I deemed this highly dangerous, I limped the car home stuck it in the garage and the next day ripped the management out, me and my good friend bob then set upon a complete new ecu and loom, a standalone engine mangement system called megasquirt At the same time I decided to whack another engine in, have the gearbox rebuilt

Having fitted that engine (used short engine) I driven it 3 times once it was up and running on the megasquirt and ripped the engine back out as it had a crack in the front of the block where the core plugs are. I then cashed the tax back in and proceeded to sulk for a couple of months, I had another motor sat in the garage so I decided to throw that in as it was only gonna cost me about £50 in gaskets etc and a bit of my time, so I got it upe and running and useable for the this summer, the engine is a sack of poo though, as rattly as the 1st engine I replaced With cvh engines commonly suffering from crack's due to age I couldn't justify spending about a grand to rebuild it to a top standard, so the decision was made to convert to zetec power using a engine from a focus st170 I've sold the st head as the vvt will not be needed, and purchased a brand new zetec black top head and cams

Modified sump to clear the driveshaft and so that the starter motor will bolt into place.

So part of the conversion involves using the cvh thermostat housing on the black top head and also mounting the cossie coolant temp sensor into the head, I've been shitting doing this as its a brand fire new head. So using a cvh thermostat housing gasket as a template the holes were marked out, this pic is when I've drilled and tapped the first hole. This is when I've drilled and tapped the other 2 holes and the stat housing is bolted in place allowing me to mark the head to then find the spot for the cts. Hole drilled for the cts Tapping the thread in for the cts Sensor bolted into the head and the stat housing fitted. So all thats needed for the head now is to fit the ST170 valve springs and its ready to be fitted to the engine once the head gasket arrives.

Thanks for the comments guys, I will keep the thread updated if people are interested.
The color is its factory color, aquafoam blue iirc
I put off drilling and tapping the head for ages, then 1 sunday I had a hangover and the mrs wanted me to go to her boring grand parents, I said I was busy so just cracked on, I used a jml drill guide to keep the drill straight, seemed to do the job well enough.
The bench sagged in the middle after a week or so so is now chopped up and removed, it served a purpose for a short time, I have a decent bench its just awkward having engines in bits and a engine on the stand.
I'm gonna crack on in the morning, hopefully get the ARP con rod bolts fitted, fit the stronger st170 valve springs into the new head then hope fully get the head on and torqued down, it taken a while to get the suitable head gasket, I was waiting to get a specific gasket from ford but its been on back order for a long time, I've opted for a cometic mls gasket now, 1.5mm thick to drop the compression for turbo use, £100 for a gasket doh!

Unusual, don't remember seeing them in that colour That's sometimes the best way to do things, otherwise you over concentrate and it all goes wrong

Good write up I won't ask how much has been spent I whittled it down from about 30 pages of my thread on another forum, which mostly entailed all the troubles it had running on the cosworth management. Cost I don't count anymore but have a ball park figure in my head over the 3-4 years

If you look on the VIN plate it will have a paint code number and letter. Nice motor keep us posted.

Cracked on with the engine today, I fitted these When fitted, Unpacked the cylinder head from its packaging Ready to remove the cams etc and then I could replace the valve springs with the st170 springs that I removed from the st170 head before sale. The ST170 spring is the spring on the right, these have been used with success by a good few people, the standard spring isn't adequate for forced induction. Block part way through cleaning New cometic head gasket, old st item on the right Head on, cams fitted, just needs a clean then I will go and get a cambelt kit so I can time it up next and also a exhaust manifold gasket so I can fit the adapter plate so I can then mount the turbo and work out where the oil return is gonna be machined into/fitted Not a bad day really

So are you using a standard 2.0 zetec cylinder head?
But with st170 cams and valves?

Standard 2.0 head, all brand new including the cams and buckets, just using the st170 valve springs.
So while the springs were been fitted I kept all the buckets in order so when re assembled it should have all its factory clearances intact.
