Brake hoses are now fitted, replaced both rear wheel bearings yesterday too. While it was on the ramp I finally painted the calipers, I did think about doing the drums but I think it might look a bit pants. When I got home the wife was out so I finally got around to wiring the electric aerial up so we can now listen to the radio on the way to shows and it will be handy for traffic updates etc. Better still the car fits in the garage still with the aerial extended. Wasn't bad really there is a nice permanent live for the power hood in the boot so I only had to run a single wire from the stereo.

Maybe black drums ? Guessing disc conversion is on the list of things to do ! Rear discs are a bit pointless on the mk3 & mk4 escorts, they over brake on the rear with them fitted, causing the rear end to step out. A few have been smashed up due to this. The answer is to fit a adjustable bias valve to reduce the braking effort to the rear wheels, thus creating the question, Why fit rear discs to only have to dumb them down? Might as well keep a simple reliable drum set up that gives virtually no issues and the parking brake will be easily maintained.

Just broken it again 1 hour sat on the side of the M6 freezing my testicles off. RAC service was great, so invaluable. Got the car home for me with no fuss.

I'm guessing that 5th gear has exploded, I was going towards Warrington to a car meet, gave it a tickle of gas, it went a bit like this
"Whaaaaa BANG"
Outside temps were rather cool so that will have been boosting power.
Gearbox has done alright to be fair for a £75 gamble.
Edit to add, after the loud Bang it then wouldn't accelerate or come out of 5th gear position.

Nah still on a old BC gearbox, might throw a IB5 box in. Ultimate solution is a MTX75 conversion. Big money though.

Didn't the BC box get superseded by the IB5 box IIRC. MTX 75 gearbox was also fitted to the Escort MK5 and 6 RS2000 and the 130 BHP versions as well I think and the early Focus RS as well. Depends what you mean by big money?

£2000-£3000
Gearbox Custom mounts Custom shafts Hydraulic Clutch conversion Cable shift conversion Possible speedo conversion issues. 2.0 flywheel Focus RS clutch (start around £450 afaik) New starter motor Welding and fabrication, modification of the nearside chassis leg. Refinishing of the engine bay after welding/fabrication. Transporting car to the Wirral for fab work.
Possibly a few bits I've missed
