I've put the car back together over the weekend as Ive had the exhaust and gear cables off to tidy up the repair to the mounting area.
I'm taking the car over to the fabricator after work on Friday and he is making a new mount without the rose joint, fingers crossed its going to reduce some of the vibration.
I've got a show I need to attend in April that my mates organise at 3 Sisters race track, then the plan is to have the gearbox back out and sent for overhaul and hopefully get the ratios altered.

That mount does look pretty! Hope the polybushes do their thing and absorb that torque

That mount does look pretty! Hope the polybushes do their thing and absorb that torque It still vibrates but nowhere near as bad as it was, so time will tell. Had my foot down in it briefly on Sunday after I had put it back together, forgot how lively it can be, certainly need your wits about you. Off to 3 sisters race track on Sunday for the first show of the year.

Well sort of yeah. I've been planning on putting a different gearbox in for a while. I paid for the gearbox a couple of months ago just so I had it ready.
Treated myself to a 2ton engine crane from SGS engineering in Derby.
I did make a booboo as I thought this work was all going to be possible with the garage door shut.
So yesterday I stripped all hoses and manifold etc. Hopefully tomorrow I can roll the car backwards a few feet and get it raised and all the underside bits done. Hopefully I'm going to lower the engine and box together and extract the gearbox that way. Otherwise its lift the 2 out the top. It was a bit tight getting it in that way when it was built up last time.
Once I commit to it tomorrow I have to get it back onto its wheels in order to shut the garage again.

Little update, the normal 2.0 focus gearbox drives a lot better. Less torque steer.
I've just been doing some research and I'm hopefully getting rid of the poly gearbox and engine mounts.
Got some rubber bushes ordered and a length of tube to be able to press the new bushes into my current mounts.
Fingers crossed it will reduce a lot of vibrations at under 2000rpm

Sounds like a plan. The extra give in the rubbers should help with the mounts issue you were having with the old setup

Why does a 1 hour job have to turn into a 4 day ordeal?
No way then new bush was going in the mounting bracket.
The poly bush was so tight to remove I lost my shit and took A hacksaw to it.
The mounting bracket is now at the machine shop to be opened by approx 1mm.
Get this one back then have to remove the gearbox mount and send that to be machined too.
Never simple.

Got it back together with the engine mount bush replaced. What a difference. I might not even bother swapping the gearbox bush for the moment.
Very happy with the reduction in vibration.

Done a bit on the old skip today, removed a load of the old unused wiring to try and start tidying the under bonnet appearance. Basically all the old wiring for the mechanical fuel injection system it once had I have cut out where it enters the main loom in a few places, every wire I've cut hasn't been plugged into anything for years, once cut I have put heat shrink obver the bare ends, shrunk it then taped it all back into the main loom so it can't be seen. Also found and fixed some terrible wiring the previous owner had carried out when fitting the after market fron side lights, wires had just been twisted together and taped up, so the are all now on proper insulated crimped terminals. Unfortunately whilst doing this a wire came off the headlamp plug so I rewired a new plug onto the loom using some heatshrinking soldering connectors I bought a while ago. These did the job really well, so I'm glad I bought them as I can't solder to save my life. Hopefully it will start again after all the wires I removed Just waiting for a custom speedo cable to be made and be delivered then I can hopefully get the heater box back in and take it for a MOT
