It's only about three weeks since I posted details of the family fleet and already there has been a change. My son-in-law has traded his long suffering Honda Accord and bought a 2013 Audi A6 with a 2 litre diesel engine and 63,000 miles on the clock. It's a lovely car but I can't see it taking the same abuse as the Honda.
I have not found the engine type code yet but I can tell that the engine points up the road rather than transverse. I can't see the oil filter looking from the top, I presume it's accessible from below? Did some of those Audis have problems with front suspension arms?

Oil filter will more than likely be under the engine cover.

Engine ID codes are usually stamped on the engine block in three-digit alpha characters followed by a series of numbers (usually six). Newer models may also have an adhesive label located on the timing belt cover.

So are you going to use the Golf (in a state) estate after it's passed the MOT? Yes, its insured for 8K per anum. Trial run out could be Anglia auctions? MOT Monday Today the golf estate passed its MOT, better late than never......... Found a new test centre that doesn't list advisories the size of a phone book too, I left the previous fail (back from april) in the car and the tester laughed at the advisories given and didn't give any himself!

Treated my daily focus to a pair of aux belts yesterday as they were making a noise in damp weather.
Tomorrow the wifes Focus ST is getting some attention, should be replacing the front wishbone rear bushes with new Powerflex poly bushes, will hopefully be sorting the fiddly bonnet lock/catch. Depending on time the calipers might be getting a fresh coat of orange paint.

Yes, it was always my intention too, just lifes events leaving little time to sort the brakes after replacing the front flexis and having a disaster and the abs pump getting airlocked. Drove it to work tonight

I've done 1 lot of poly bushes on my pals ST and about 3-4 sets of standard bushes.
If the bush is proper fecked you can remove the arm from the car, get it in the vice, twist the outer part off the arm and then either cut the remainder off the wishbone, or I think the last couple I've pushed the remainder, off with the air chisel. then clean the arm up and press the new bush on.
When fitting the poly bushes its a similar procedure, but when you get the bush housing off you have to remove any parts from the housing that remain, the bushes are a bit of a pain to press in, loads of liquid tyre lube helps. I found you have to press the bush all the way through the housing then press it backwards again.

Well I made a right mess of it. Couldn't get the old bush off the arm. Tried with my air chisel and in the press but gave up after an hour ! Maybe I was doing it wrong

Cossie back up and running albeit still got an underlying problem with the old Serpi Star alarm system which I think has got confused somewhere along the line and seems to have a mind of it's own of late. Going to take it for a run later on. I'm trying to find an online manual to see if there is a synchronisation reset procedure for it. Mondeo ST220 is due a Service (when I find time) and just given it a once over and the front tyres will need replacing around winter time (3mm across both). I've got two Michelin Sport 3 (225/40/18 92Y)in my garage ready for when they are near to the legal limit. Bought a few months ago and I couldn't refuse at that price. All ligit mind. Just pricing up Service items now see how much they are (no spark plugs)as they where done last year and are due every three years or 37,500 which ever comes first. Noticed an oil leak on around the engine don't know where it's coming from? Crankshaft oil seal may be or something else needs investigating. Front pads are ok but noticed large lips on the inner face of the discs and the original ( I think it is) exhaust system O/S back box outer skin is corroding and starting to break away. Hopefully get round to it one day this week weather permitting.

Missus Wheelnut chopped in her two-year old Fabia this week and bought the new model. It's a very nice car but even though it's the same trim level as the old one, there is some surprising skimping in the fittings. For instance the electric windows are no longer fully automatic so you have to keep the button pushed or pulled until the glass goes the whole way up or down. I wonder how many pennies that saved in the production cost!

All Manufacturers are looking to cut costs wherever possible.
