sorry mate, just an idea, but it is hard to tell if the lobes are in the same position unless they're side by side & is there many differnt cams for this engine? a lot of manutacturers use it in various states of tune
anyway, just a variable you may not've considered, but looks like you have

I have listened today to a 2012 Transit with the EGR governor going berserk (incorrect calibration for an aftermarket EGR valve fitted) and I'm fairly sure that this isn't the problem, now.
I tried to record some data, acoustic and Pico traces of the problem, but sadly I failed on all accounts....
The noise is not a "popping" sound when listening from the intake trunk pulled from the air cleaner box outlet. It sounds more like a deep drumming, in time with the EGR valve opening and shutting, when analysed at idle speed.
Unless the intake throttle valve is being caused to slam shut in time with the EGR valve fully driving open (the two work one after the other to achieve a low airflow at the MAF) then it might appear that this particular problem here is more likely to be an exhaust cam lobe being worn, so causing the overlap to disappear on one cylinder, and then popping back the pressure wave through the opening intake valve a few milliseconds later. That would fit with Remmington's experiences at the top of this thread.

OK, that is definitely not an intake flap or EGR valve flapping. It sounds like a valve timing/overlap issue, but there's not much wrong from the idle noise there, that seems to be fairly close to the normal induction "panting" that you would expect on a compression-ignition engine.
Double-check all your valve timings and make sure the cams you have fitted are known-good.
Unless there is some other noise in behind the induction noise on the video?

Try taking the auxiliary drive belt off and listen again to see if any change takes place.

Can any one confirm that these are the right cams for my van inlet bk3q6a270 aa And exhaust bk2q6a273 ab its a euro 5 2.2 rwd code drra as it looked like it had been stripped before thank you

Did you try and see if the noise goes away by removing the auxiliary drive belt?
