You may have seen a few of my technical help request threads... but thought it was high time I introduced myself properly and my current projects. The Golf is mine, I bought in the summer last year after watching them for a couple of years, waiting for the one that was as close as possible to the one I had in my 20's. The only difference is my original one had been through GTI engineering's tuning process, whist this one is stock. The BMW on the left is what I bought for my wife in August this year, we had a 'sensible' 2008 Focus estate as our main family car but we both hated it's blandness. After my wife came with my to the Mk2 Golf Owners Club National Meet this year and after spending the weekend with people that enjoyed and cherished their cars she decided that she wasn't going to put up with the Focus any more. When I asked her what she wanted she found this. It's what I had when we first got together and the first time she understood that a car was more than just a mode of transport (she had a Daewoo at the time). The one in the middle I bought as a breaker, as I soon found out the market for second hand BMW parts is not as friendly as the VW crowd and this seemed to be the best way to get the spares I needed.

Haha, had a 1.6 ghia fiesta beforehand, nippy little thing. The focus was 1.8 petrol estate and just a bit lifeless, in comparison nice enough car and on paper was the sensible option for 2 kids and a dog.
Sometimes just gotta follow your heart.

Mk2 rocco was the same as the mk1 golf platform. I've currently got a mk1 and mk2 rocco cluttering up the drive

Quite often use lumps of wooden sleeper I stead of axle stands. More stable on a gravel drive

Bricks and blocks are now well and truly finished with and they won't be used again - Promise . the BMW undercarriage is all finished with replacement fuel tank and filler neck, refurbished rear axle, trailing arms and ARB. All new bushes and a few extra splashes of paint to make it look tidy. It's now back on the floor and hopefully staying that way. Was all set for the MOT when the coolant flange let go on whilst ticking over on the driveway, so the project's not finished just yet.... but so close. Next job, start on the other Mk2 Golf you can just about see in the background. I'm planning to get a rollover jig before take on anything big with this one. So I'll be able to flip it over and do all the floor welding form the topside. Oh and the remains of the other one (the 316 that I broke for parts) went off a little while ago. But not to the crusher, a fellow enthusiast bought what was left to strip right back, have dipped, treated and repainted and become the new shell for a 325 project.

That's looking really good under there, well done Are you keeping her long term now? I noticed you had her up for sale a while back, don't do it No she's up for sale, and most likely going this weekend. I put it up for sale knowing I still had to change the fuel tank and fit the bushes but underestimated how long it was going to take, not the actually work but fitting it in in my spare time around a wife, kids 2 dogs and general family life. In the meanwhile the sale ad was gathering interest and I have a waiting list of people I need to contact when it's ready, out of those there's a couple of serious buyers that I've been keeping updated with progress reports and pictures at their request. MOT booked in for Friday so we'll find out if I've missed anything. I'd keep it if I could, as in if I had the space and didn't need the money. But this was/is my wife's car and she's lost the love for it. My real love is the Golf's and having had both a Mk2 Golf and an e30 Touring some 15+ years ago, whilst back then I rated the e30 as the better car returning to them now I have to say I think the Golf has passed the test of time better. Maybe because it's simpler. It's certainly a lot easier to work on and much more basic which suits me fine. I'm gutted I won't see the benefit of all this work, but I'm glad I've done it and I've done it to the best of my ability just as if I was going to be keeping it. No cutting corners.
