The TT units are quite good, we used them a lot at work as part of our test gear arsenal....
I have a couple of bench power supplies myself that get lots of use....2 channels 0-30V DC at 3 amps each plus a separate 5v supply...The channels can be series'd up to give 60V or paralleled to give 0-30V at 6 Amps...plus variable current limiting which is great for stopping you blowing stuff up....

It is the current limiting I am particularly interested in for finding bad components, just need some more practice!

I don't know how you do it!! All I ever find is rubbish, and you seem to have a knack of creaming-off the best old equipment......

Well not everything goes to plan. Bought a set of the long Power Probe piercers, what a complete pile of "power probe " they were, went straight back, could have poked a smaller, more successful hole with a pencil. Note lack of shiny copper in wire.
Then having used a shiny new Mityvac a handful of times it packed up - outlasted by the cheap bit of ebay junk that I have a spare! Sent off for fix under warranty several weeks ago.

I thought it was just me that had Mityvac problems....Mine has has swollen seals for so long now, I cannot go from vacuum to pressure, and the air-bleed control is almost (but not quite) venting permanently.
I was just going to rebuild it with better-quality seals (if I can find them), as I put it down to my abuse of the tool - too much brake-fluid going through it!

I have a Druck PV211 hand pressure/vac pump - bought it secondhand years ago off eBay (when you could find a used bargin off eBay). It came with spare set of seals and quality fluid filled vac/pressure gauge - set of tube/pipe adapters. Think I paid £40 for it (what a bargin). thedruckstore.co.uk/product/druck-pv211-hand-pump-test-kit/

I hate piercing wires - I have MAC tool set of this things I never use and would give you THEM. To be honest - I have resorted to severing wires and soldering them back together (heatshrinking them). For the purposes of testing before - it is sometimes easier than stripping the back of multiplugs - when access is poor!

My Pomona 6405's are excellent, tiny self healing hole, 100% sure of a connection. I always follow up with a coat of liquid electrical tape anyway, 2 coats if it's external. Probably do about the same amount of pierce, back probe and different size breakout leads - also good for drag tests.
Pomona with a solid connection, same wire.
Didn't even get a chance to abuse the MV, think it broke about the 3rd time I used it but I put it down to a bad vac connection. Hefty chunk of metal though "Heavy is good. Heavy is reliable. If it doesn't work you can always heet him with it..." ( Boris in "Snatch" in case you think I've lost it!)

I dont know what size hole your piercy things make, but when I was adding a tow bar electrics to my 13 plate Passat, I needed to identify the feed for the brake lights ( they are not CAN bus controlled for safety reasons they are hard wired...) so to identify the appropriate wire, I used an LED attached to a couple of bits of wire ( RED and BLACK ) with a croc clip attached to a good ground and a dress makers pin to the RED wire to pierce the insulation...All good..works for me...
