Dear Mrs Sorted, I was only looking- I know I have the Stag fully rebuilt and it cost more than I said. And I’ve built a new garage for it. But I bid really low honestly, never expected to win it, but somehow it now seems to be mine..... i.ebayimg.com/images/g/zVcAAOSwnulgpVxk/s-l300.jpgDont know if link will work, can’t upload photo, are we out of space again?

Actually an MGB GT, chrome bumper model.
It comes as per pic (thanks Rhyds, kept getting “angry bear” messages when I tried) and many boxes of bits.

I see it now, I used to work on these and stags at the first garage I started my apprenticeship at.
I actually prefer the GT to the roadster tbh.
What's the plans?
A nice modern power plant would be nice.

Yep def my winter project! Plan is to make it more of a daily driver as I will be doing far less miles than pre-COVID- my company has already said I will only need to go into the office once every couple of weeks or so. We decided over a year ago it wasn’t worth taxing and insuring 2 dailies so my Astra has been SORN since then, might just sell it. But I don’t want to daily the Stag, so this is the compromise- cheap insurance and free tax!
Not sure on the engine yet, much will depend on what the B- series that comes with it is like, but as I remember they were quite peppy and reasonably frugal too. If you know how to set up the twin SUs, which many don’t these days.
I also have a half formed idea that in a few years it may be a good candidate for an electric conversion ?

It would sound lovely with a nice fettled V8.

Ordinarily I would agree- I love a V8- but I already have the Stag which fits the bill there (fettled 3.9 V8 in that which goes like stink and sounds awesome) so I think I want to be able to drive this one without a fuel tanker in tow!

I take it that it hasn't got an engine with it then?

Yes Rhubarb it comes with standard B-series 1.8 and overdrive box, but no idea on condition until I can get into it. Being delivered on Saturday.

I've heard of at least one MGB with the 2.0 L-series diesel out of the Rover 200/400/600! Looks like a worthwhile project, and MGBs are handy in that all the parts are available

A 1.8 B-series is just fine in one of these, and very reliable, so whatever the outcome on the supplied powertrain, I reckon it would be best in standard-form.
I had a 1.8 Coupe Marina with a 1960cc souped-up engine in it, and I can honestly say that it was the most fun you could have in a circle, until you loaded a pile of student HiFi and books into the boot.....
