This reminds me of my old Rover 45, who's disc rear handbrake was always sticking and seizing at some point.
As for the fleet here, all quiet since my winscreen got changed. The exhaust is still protesting slightly so I might bite the bullet and get it changed. The only reason I've not done it sooner is that there's no exhaust place in town (there's a tyre place that does batteries, but not exhausts strangely).

Further investigation needed ta. Update on my Mondeo ST220. Well it appears from a visual check that the o/s rear caliper has been sticking as it's worn the brake pad down considerably compared to the n/s one (over half life left on that side). Both rear discs are showing signs of wear with a lip on each one and I've just checked my Service History and both discs and pads where changed (Bosch) in late June 2013 which is about 20k miles ago. Looks like new discs and pads again and I'm really shocked they haven't lasted longer than that. Not sure now whether to go for Pagid discs and pads or other make? Pricing up now as I type. Just under £75 for both discs and pads in June 2013. Bosch disks and pads on sale always seem to be cheap? Maybe for a reason? On the last few cars I've bought the carriers have always been grotty, ridged and burred - particularly the innermost pad. I remove them completely to clean them up

Priced the parts up and if I need to buy a new o/s rear caliper if the one on won't free off the Factors have a surcharge until the old ones brought in. Just under £120 (without the Caliper surcharge) all in for Caliper two rear discs and a set of rear pads all Pagid.

May be it's a sign of the times things are made 9Manufactured) not to last as long as they used to whatever it may be TV,Washing Machine,Fridge etc.

Last Summer matey. Calipers seized then innit Don't buy Pagid man ffs Yes it has because the brake pads worn right down to not a lot left. If the caliper won't free off it's a new one. I know your not a fan of Pagid anything.

Come on Pete, you can't blame the parts if the caliper is at fault. Have you had a phone around local factors that aint multi nationals?

I know I know don't you get on my case as well getting enough off the Mrs who said to me yesterday on the way to the Pool. "What's that smell" "Don't know can't smell anything" Mrs 1 Nobby 0. Then the handbrake problem surfaced on the way home. I've checked two up to now all similar prices depending if I go for Bosch again or other brand. Bosch calipers aren't cheap.

Is the ST the same caliper as the rest of the mondeo range? Mine are 38mm diameter calipers on the rear and the fronts IIRC are 57 mm brake disc diameter on the rear is 280mm. I think they are very similar on the Mondeo MK111 range Stu.

I finally got round to giving the Focus a good clean and she came up nicely Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedNow it has its new clutch it drives very nicely (especially after I stuck a bit more wind in the tyres, I've never seen a car so sensitive to tyre pressures). The next step is to fit a couple of plug-in upgrades, that is variable delay intermittent wipers (plug in a new stalk) and dimmable instrument illumination (plug in a new headlamp switch). Next stage is sorting out some rust bubbles under the driver's sill (I tried last year with little success)

Today I finally got a chance to do an oil change (Shell Helix Ultra fully synthetic for under £20) and fit my new toys. Oil change was uneventful using a cheapo silverline "bedpan" drain pan I got for a couple of quid from toolstation, and I splashed out another couple of quid on some funnels to help pour the old oil in to a can to take to the tip. First upgrade was a new headlamp switch with instrument illumination control. For some reason the car didn't come with one as standard. A quick plug-and-play upgrade. Attachment DeletedSecond is a variable delay wiper stalk. Again this was a plug-and-play upgrade (as long as the plug on the car loom has all 10 pins wired up) and is very handy, as the standard delay is quite long (10 seconds) and it was getting on my nerves Attachment Deleted
