Presumably the noise is worse on full throttle? If so would have thought it could only be intake or exhaust - does it accelerate OK? Wondering if it might be a blocked exhaust or leaking flexible joint. That would be in the area you describe.

Does it have the standard air filter box ?
Resonator broken/removed inside air box
Not familiar with Vauxhall corsa's
any recent repair work ?
Did you say you brought it from an Vauxhall agent ?
It may be worthwhile paying them an hour to check it out.
Have you compared with another corsa ?
Does it have a turbocharger ?

I can't see the first post in this thread, but recall it is a 1.0 litre engine Corsa? ....don't think they had a turbo on that model?
Mebbe the OP can confirm the engine details.....

Yeah its a 1.0L 38,000 miles 10 plate. I did buy it from Vauxhall them selves, I rang them a few months ago. They reckon because it is 2nd hand it only had 3 month warranty which has expired now. It doesn't have a turbo and the airbox and filter are all original. I had a cone filter on it ages ago but it still made the noise then. Been looking through all the history and there has never been anything wrong with it. Just usual servicing like oil, bulbs, filters. Checked under car today and cant seem to find any faults. Nothing is loose like the exhaust or heat guards, no leaks of coolant or oil anywhere. Brakes fine too. I even went as far as making sure the airflow mass sensor is clean which it is.

Acceleration is fine. For a one litre lol.

Mac. Not disputing your expert opinion, but if there was a knock control issue, wouldn't it throw a code? Perhaps the op forgot to mention this? missed your question chippie sorry, the ecm will advance ign timing when egr is used these are not that tightly monitored only circuit codes, not that it matters to the corsa owner he doesnt know if its got a maf or a map

I'd be looking at the flexi on the exhaust downpipe. Sounds like the internal bellows are split. Wouldn't necessarily give you a leak, as the braided flexi around the bellows can mask all but the worst exhaust blow. That would explain why it only does it under load.

Nathan, From Valhalla's suggestion of cracked bellows, you could test for exhaust leaks by putting a cloth over the end do the exhaust while having someone check around the engine bay for noise.....
