The old 25 was a nice car, I brought one with a failed H/G and cracked drive plate, once I'd repaired it I had a queue of people wanting to buy it afterwards, made a nice little sum

The 25 Commerce/MG Express were pretty rare when new, and I've not seen one for years.

Also, there's probably still a history of many peoples in that area who worked, or had family working at Longbridge. That's very true. Oli

I am starting to see more 25's and the MG version, the ZR. Very easy car to work on, even head jobs are straightforward. They are starting to make good money as well.

Slightly off topic but anyone else think we might be entering an era where a lot of people might prefer an older and more simple vehicle (I mean non-DIYers) to avoid the pitfalls of modern things going wrong?
Or are we just too in love with the idea of new (or newer) stuff for it to get going?

That's the basic idea behind Dacia. 3-5 year old Renault technology (so all the bugs ironed out) and all non-essential kit removed or made optional.
The problem is, as you say, your average Focus/Golf buyer wants their reversing camera, built in satnav and climate control.

That's the basic idea behind Dacia. 3-5 year old Renault technology Indeed, this is the solution that one local to myself is coming to - I cannot recommend anything else to him. There's little "basic" out there any more, all the mainstream manufacturers seem to have gone into a frenzy to out-do each other on "gadgets". I personally wouldn't buy anything new these days - not because I don't fancy a new car, but simply the over-complexity and poor development of the systems. And I cannot afford a new Defender before they go out of production.....the last bastion of (reasonably) basic engineering. The problem is, as fast as the Germans develop new technology for the top-end of the range, they lobby through the EU to get it rolled-out (mandated) to the EU fleet, through the EU, and hence set themselves up with a nice little earner for the next 30years on spares (because the systems are so damned awful for reliablity). Rant over.

Rant over. I'd agree with the above - though I'd much prefer a rebuilt defender from 20odd years ago with a TDI (and I'm sure the newer one's seem to rot more as well). Governments and manufacturers would all much rather we buy more new cars than repair old ones as they benefit from it economically. Everyone gasps if JLR has to cut production but nobody notices if 'Dave's Garage' goes down the pan and Mr and Mrs average have to get a big loan to replace their car because something complex is knackered. Dacia's are selling exteremely well here in Ireland. The logic seems to be that you can buy a totally new Duster for 2-3 year old Qashqai money. Over here, the entry-level Qashqai's are as basic as the Duster too.

I said Dacia would do well when they started up again over here... I see a fair few around here...They appeal to me too... Buy one for 7 grand, get upto 10 years out of it, throw it away and buy another one..
