hi yall! i was having a look at a clio3 1.5 on 2007 yesterday. it spins over fine, sounds like it has compression. its been sent to me by another garage. there are problems on the pressure reg and map sensor circuits. looking on live data the fuel pressure shoots up 475 bars on crank and stays there, even when ign is switched off!! it goes if you slacken the injector pipe. but it would wouldnt even fire up,even for a second on easy start, just kept locking up!!! the timing belt timing was spot on,so im gona look further today, but i kept thinking that it should fire up,even for a second on some sniff. any ideas anyone?

Sounds like timing to me!
If it locks!
Even thou you have checked the timing?
Could you have lost a keyway on a pulley.
Had a Vectra diesel do this to me last month.

Had a Vectra diesel do this to me last month. could well be you know. spoke to the other garage this morning, they are sure that they had it running on sniff!!! my mechanic has suggested that we take the fuel filter off and empty it(easier said then done),said if it contains swarf then chances are the injectors are blocked, they look like new injectors as well. would explain the high diesel pressure we are getting.

The timing belts have a habit of running off on these k9k engines I think
Pumps wherent put on correctly at factory
Then the engine bites the dust

Where's the filter under the wheel arch I think

Another one for China by the sound of it. I have yard full of "scrap" towed into us this week! Every other car I look at "is beyond economic repair" Have a woman ringing me hourly nearly this week! 2004 Freelander TD4 towed in, snapped the crankshaft! She wants a written quote! Customers are mad. We put a new PSG16 diesel pump on an 2003 Vectra last week, the car had 195.000 on the clock. Why do they do it?

Stop guessing, be professional and test it properly. Has it not occurred to you that the pressure might be too high? Learn about the system, be fair to your customer, don't practice on his car . Hint, Pressure regulation is part of system control.

Every day is a school day, ie every day you're learning on a customers car. Now answer the original question, "when does a diesel not start on a sniff?"
