Bit of a random one this guys
A friend has called asking about fitting an induction kit to his 2002 1.8 nissan primera
It has a maf that attaches to back of the air box with 4 screws
Wondering if a maf from another vehicle with two tubular ends could be fitted so that a cone filter could be attached?

I don't know but how about an uprated panel filter and drill a load of holes in the air box
Either way he is wasting money as you well know
Brumm brum brum brum
Just take the air filter out for a bit if he wants it to sound sporty
It always amazes me how much lads are willing to spend on these type of things but then skimp on the important stuff

www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMmIqOXxjQUAn open filter in the hot engine bay will lose power A cold air feed to the standard filter box is probably the best chance of any performance gain, if he wants to go ahead just cut the flange off the maf?

Then it could be fitted that way. Either way cost wise and also benefits is better for panel filter but its not my car or my bank balance so hey lol

I know about heat in engine bay But it's not like a 1.8 primera is going to be getting any performance awards lol The only thing to do would maybe cut it and file it so that cone can be attached. But wether he's going to want to do that I don't know.

Unless you could find a "circular" MAF that behaves in exactly the same way with regards to air temp and flow as the OE Nissan MAF then I doubt you could swap them over without some serious work. The ECU will be programmed with the assumption that an OE MAF is being used. Sticking one in with different voltages at different airflows would probably confuse it to heck.

That's why I always order a general-purpose MAF whenever I repair anyone's car..... it's so much cheaper and quicker than poring through catalogues to find the right part. If it's Chinese, so much the better, the manufacturer's were all idiots to source their own unique parts from the big EU players. Just make sure that it sends a flat 4.5volts out with the slightest breeze, job's a good-un!

The induction kit he has got is probably the wrong one. From how you've described it, sounds like it should be similar to the golf one Send it back and just get a free flowing panel filter as suggested

Has he actually bought a kit, or has he just got a cone filter?

Has he actually bought a kit, or has he just got a cone filter? Hasn't got anything yet just asking about it and my assumption is he's looking at 10 quid eBay come filters lol Have explained why he would be better sticking a panel filter in. I reckon one of them kits you've posted will probably cost a 1/3 of what his car is worth lol

Was more a case of maybe another nissan or renault one would run on same frequencey/ voltage etc but have a tubular design so just a swap over.
