Any testers able to advise on this? Next door neighbour (NDN) asked me to take his Clio 172 Sports Cup rollerskate/puddlejumper crossbred for it's MoT test. My better judgement being impaired due to the consumption of several substantial Whyte & MacKays (W&Ms) -at his expense- I agreed. It got slaughtered; failed on 18 counts but not all bad news - no advisories! One of the failures was on the rear brake pressure regulating valve (can't remember the exact wording) but, according to MoT tester, a part of the linkage is missing. No problem methinks, buy, beg, borrow or otherwise obtain the missing bit, bolt in place and Robert is thy mother's brother. Alas I didn't take into account NDN's propensity for surfing the Tinternet, so last might while I was chilling out with a small W&M (at my expense) I got a phone call from him to the effect that he had found something on aforesaid Tinternet that his model of Renault Clio Cup didn't need this "missing link" as Renault had designed it thus, AND, VOSA, having had learned discussion with Messrs Renault on this subject had issued advice to MoT testers to the effect that this "missing link" is not a valid RFR. I've had a quick look on the net myself and it looks like there might be something in what NDN is saying, but before I go to my MoT guy and ask him to look at this again, can any of the testers on here tell me if they have encountered this situation and is there any VOSA guidance on it? Thanks in advance Silvery Moon

if your old enough to remember old type mini had a rear brake compensator , this is the same brake fluid pressure controlled, I'm old enough to remember Austin A35s with hydro/mechanical back brakes Also, I can just remember my old mans 1934 Austin 10 (20+ years old when he bought it, I was still at primary school) which, I think had rod operated brakes and yes I had lot's of fun with mini brakes in the late 60s/early 70s but I don't remember ever having problems with the rear brake compensator on them - trouble with every other b****y thing but not that valve.
