Belts on these TSI engines I believe and need stupidly expensive diagnostics equipment to set them up but I understand the belt is easy to change but setting it up isn’t. My Indi garage sends everyone to a main dealer and I understand at a cost of £1200 ish per vehicle if you want it doing. his daughters got a Seat Leon with the same engine as mine and he won't do that either because of the expensive equipment needed to set up the timing system 3 grand a pop I believe. he just can't justify the outlay to recoup his money. Uh oh, money pit! Yeah that's the kind of gotcha I'd rather avoid. Well, good to know about Apparently its down to the VVT? Googled around a bit and yeah, sounds like you're right, though a couple of people pop up claiming to have got their 1.5tsi done for 500 - 600. I'd better open a savings account for when the day comes round VW 1.5 Tsi Timing With Special Tool www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXPTn6YxttwLaser tools - do a mechanical timing kit to do the belts on these engines - garage behind my workshop has got one - I borrowed it a few times - easy job!

ta Remmington for the reply - yeah my first choice last time I was playing the new car game was a Passat, great for space and practicality. I might keep my old focus estate for the tip runs and other messy jobs so the fancy new Tarraco doesn't get messed up I used to have Merc estate cars for myself - but they got too dear for me. I been pleased with the Passats I have had... I will be having another one - or a Skoda Superb. Anything but an Audi... They the worst of VAG stable...

Oh sorry, yeah, Seat Tarraco 1.5 TSi. Very pleasant to drive, and once it gets going the engine is very flexible, goes up hills in 4th barely touching the gas pedal. Only 22k on the clock so hopefully got many years ahead

Pics would be nice without the reg number for security purposes. That is if your ok doing so.

It's a 2019 SE Technology, so no reversing camera (I don't really need one but might look into fitting an aftermarket AliExpress special so long as no major wiring work is needed), 6 speed manual, 150bhp. I didn't want an auto box, as I like a manual and I might be wrong but afaik VW DSGs need a fluid change every couple of years, and I don't trust autos from a long term reliability angle either. Colour is Atlantic Blue, which is a nice navy metallic. Laser cut 18" alloys. The 3rd row seats are for children, my teens are getting taller than me so will always be folded flat. Definitely a huge step up from my manky 2008 focus. Thought I'd keep that as a spare runabout but we've got a supermini so a bit pointless keeping it. Only has the tyre repair kit so I might get a space saver, jack etc, I guess it depends on cost. Off on a long weekend away with dog, 3 passengers and luggage so I'll get a better idea of how the 1.5 copes. Hopefully it will stay in 5th on those long climbs on the A303 through Wiltshire... I'll upload some pics some other time, probably after the weekend so don't hold your breath.

The auto boxes are either 6 or 7 speed… oil and filter change every 40 k miles. Remmington is an expert on these…. Does them in his sleep…. VAG cars are a definite improvement on any Ford…I had Mondeo estates from 2003 until 2013, then changed to Passat est because the latest Mondeo I had, clutch started to slip at 26k miles….and Ford wanted £1500 to do it…..

I used to want a Mondeo Estate, but I watched Alan Howatt's YouTube channel and got the impression that the Mk6 was a step down in reliability

Never had any reliability issues really with the 3 that I had....Started with a 2003 Zetec petrol, even tho' when the order was placed I asked for diesel...
then moved to a 2006 model, again diesel, no issues, then moved to a 2010 diesel Titanium trim model..The issues started with it dropping out of cruise mode when going up a slight incline..
The usual clutch checks revealed nothing, handbrake on engine 3rd and the engine would stall...seems ok...
Took it to the dealer, they said probably a sensor issue...( my ar*e!)...But because there was no service history carried out by them they wouldnt pursue a warranty claim...after this they started mucking me about, so I got rid and bought the first Passat...Biiigggg difference in driving and quality all round, although the salesman was a bit clueless about the Bluemotion crap, saying it would make the car better to drive and last longer...( stop starting an engine is one way of killing it!...)

I would be interested in your MPG figure. I fill then fill again when the computer says feed me lol. 35-36 running round about 40-44 on a long run but don't do many of them anymore. Here's my thread on the VW Tiguan I bought in early October 2021.It's ear marker for a winter valet on Wednesday weather permitting. It's filthy atm. Stock photo's when I bought it 3 years ago.

Cool... I like the timeless design on these, others call them boring.
I'll have to give mine a wash before I take any pics to upload
