I have a query for all you mechanics. Its quite a long post maybe.
I have a Jeep Patriot with the vag 2.0tdi in it. I heard from a mechanic I knew from a while ago. That the running gear was pretty much Q3. I'm not a mechanic. So can't confirm. But maybe you can.
I have a dead car here. Ok so the engine runs. It's 140hp I believe. Engine is good as far as I'm aware. But may need to oil pump to be done. But that's for another day.
We have this engine. Which I believe is the same as in a VW crafter. Could someone confirm??
As I was looking to use a crafter gearbox on the engine I have in a rear wheel drive car I have.
So next question is. Seeing as a lot of motors use these engines and gearboxes. I can't believe they use all different mechanisms for the gearbox. But I'm probably wrong. Would the Q3 have the same shift pattern lever lengths and alike?.
Thanks for reading. Hope that wasn't too taxing. But maybe a brain teaser. Expect some of you may know the answer.
Hoping you guys can shed some light.
Many thanks

What year is your Jeep?
The engine is VW’s generic I4, what engine code does it have?
“ have a Jeep Patriot with the vag 2.0tdi in it. I heard from a mechanic I knew from a while ago. That the running gear was pretty much Q3. I'm not a mechanic. So can't confirm. But maybe you can.”. You need to put the Q3 along side for dead cert ….
As for the Crafter g/box, ratios might be different? As for the Q3, check with one….

Hi Chippie.
Cheers for the reply. Yes it's the i4 diesel 2.0vag one.
Hadn't particularly thought about the ratios. As I didn't think the later type of van/truck boxes had granny gears like they did back in the day. Good point though. Worth a check😁👍

It’s quite conceivable that the crafter has different size wheels, being a load lugger, final drive ratio, and maybe differing internal ratios…

Chippie
That's true. I realize I forgot the age of the car it's a 57 plate
Regarding ratios and stuff. That's not a problem. As I can sort that out when I do the rear axle and tyre sizing. I was hoping that they are more drivable than olders gearboxes were.
Cheers Roland
