My sister-in-law has a 2015 Kia Venga and it failed its NCT (National Car Test) as the tester said he couldn't get any of the foglights (front or rear) to work. It came to me this evening to check it out - bulbs etc even though I couldn't imagine all 4 having failed. What I discovered was 1) If I turned on the lights to main beam - all foglights would work ; 2) If I then dipped the lights the front fogs would go of and the rears would remain on ; 3) If I switched off the headlights , leaving only parks the rears would remain on (wouldnn't respond to their own switch).
I understood the usual is that foglights only work with dipped headlights but in this case none of the foglights will come on with dipped headlights.
Any opinions /suggestions much appreciated.

My fist check with odd light operation would be to make sure the units are earthing properly. Other than that I'd try and see if you can get hold of a scantool to check nothing odd is happening on the electronics/CANBUS side.

It could be a possible relay problem or the stalk switch if that's how the lights are operated.

Thanks for replies. The lights are operated by a stalk - you twist the end 1 for sidelights 2 for headlights 3 for auto ; there is another springloaded ring slightly further in for front and rear fogs. Same as on many other cars I have worked on. No handbook unfortunately - as is often the case. Will check as advised - I have a scanner so will try that also.

To switch on the fog lights on your Kia Venga, you can perform the following operation:
Start on your car, Switch on the parking lights while turning one step down the outer ring of the handle. It would be advisable to see the green position light indicator light up on the dashboard Then spin a second step down the outer ring in order to start the low beam , There again green low beam indicator light should come on, Then use the second ring on the same command and press down once to start the fog lights. When the action has worked you will see appear the fog light indicator on the dashboard of your Kia Venga. Notes : it will be important to to distinguish le light fires front and rear fog light .
Front fog lights : An oval shape with 3 lines, to the left of the oval shape. The lines are down and a sinuous line will be superimposed to represent the mist. Indicator light color: green. Rear fog lights: An oval shape with 3 lines, to the right of the oval shape. The lines are horizontal and a sinuous line will be superimposed to represent the mist. Indicator light color: orange.
To deactivate the fog lights on your Kia Venga , you can proceed to the following steps:
On second ring the stalk (the one that allowed you to turn on your fog lights) exercise 1 step up , You will thus see that the front fog light indicator light should go out. Then you will always have dipped beam headlights activated so you have to go up 2 notches up on the first ring in order to completely deactivate the lights on your Kia Venga. When it is done, all of the lights should go out on your console.

Went through the procedure described but no joy. All points to a problem with the column switch.
