A friend has a 2018 Mercedes Vito van (W447?) with the 1.6 dsl engine. He wants to change oil and filters. I see that the fuel filter has a riveted cover over it covering pipes etc - so the cover would have to come off to disconnect pipes ( is this correct?). One of the guys at the motor factors said this was a Renault engine - and the type of filter they gave me is used in some Renaults. Is the cover removed (drill out rivets - and then riveted back on again ? Haven't seen this before and would appreciate any advice.

We don't do vans (thankfully!) but if you send me the VIN I can get the procedure for you.

Procedure attached - I think the key part is 'Disassemble fuel filter (3) from holder (4). To do so, unscrew screw (5) and fold up holder (4).' no mention of drilling out rivets. Attachment Deleted

Excellent - just what I was looking for . I had a good look at it a few nights ago but I didn't see screw no. 5 - and as you say that would seem to be the important step in getting to the filter and its connections. And I couldn't find any picture online showing the riveted part on top. Of course when it was mentioned that Renault were involved I figured it would have to be awkward/complicated . Thanks again for your help.
