JLR group. Gonna make EV batteries in UK not Spain now. Heard it on the radio this evening. ---------- What I took from this was - we now in the UK are a third world country (tears) .

Well it makes sense to me.... EV's will be installed in vehicles produced in UK, a proportion of which will be exported worldwide, so rather than having tax & shipping issues from EU, it makes sense to import raw materials straight to UK (I'm aware some may come from EU) bypassing - in the main - import & export duties the EU will charge for products assembled there. Also good to upskill the yokels

They're assuming that the majority of JLR production will be using these batteries by the end of the decade.
There was also some talk that the group was going to drop the "LR" from the name, i.e. the prominence was going to be given to the Jaguar side of the operations. CEO denied this was going to happen, but not that the discussions had taken-place.
This was exactly why I left the company - Landrover make the money, Jaguar take all the credit (and the money), install their cronies, etc. etc.
I'm not sure if JLR have factored-in the "what-ifs" around the 100% BEV route they are going down. Blindly following government policy, without questioning whether it is good policy or bad policy, seems a dangerous way to run a company. There are lot of uncertainties and back-tracking with "Net Zero" policies happening right now. If I was a betting-man, I would suggest that those companies still offering "proper" IC-powered and hybrid vehicles in 2028/30 are going to do rather well out of all this. That does not include JLR, as it stands right now. That also infers that any new facility totally dedicated to battery-production is going to be on shakey ground......

We're forced into doing this by the EU, and the 45% ruling.
It'll be no more than an assembly facility.

I think they're just taking advantage of the sweeteners on offer - which they'd be daft not to. If (when?) the BEV market tanks there's nothing stopping them producing solar power batteries for the increasing number of domestic solar storage arrays, some are using 'old' BEV batteries which are no longer fit for traction purposes but good enough for slow feed in & out usage.

Yeah £800 million or so wasn’t it
To help towards the costs
And that’s bound to triple
