A friend of mine has a 2012 Hyundai i40 estate 1.7 dsl and last Friday when climbing a slight incline it lost power and then cut out. It took a while to restart but repeated this 'performance' again after a quarter mile or so. It was fully loaded up as he and family were heading off for the weekend. So he returned and took another car leaving the Hyundai with me. I scanned it and the code P1186 came up under ECM (High power) and also under ECM (Low Power). I cleared them and the car then started and seemed fine. While driving it today he experienced a very brief hesitation and power loss - otherwise it drove fine. No codes. I replaced the Blue Print fuel filter about 2 months ago with a Blue Print with same part number. Reading various fora there seems to be many possibilities as to what may be causing this. Would appreciate any suggestions/ideas from those on the forum.

P1186 relates to fuel rail pressure….so best to check on live data…see what’s happening before diving in with the spanners…..it could be something simple like the filter is preventing fuel flow…maybe change it for a genuine part rather than pattern..? Look here…, rmsmotoring.com/forum/threads/p1186-error-code-hyundai-1-7-crdi.218898/But I suspect you’ve seen this one?
