My Focus' exhaust is starting to get a bit perforated now that its reached 12 years old, with the bottom of the back box and the pipe joins/welds seeing the worst of it, as expected with an old system
The question is what to do regarding a replacement. Normally with previous cars they weren't much of a long term vehicle so I'd just throw any old aftermarket parts on, however this car is worth keeping, so it looks like I've got three main options
1) go for a good aftermarket exhaust. Does such a thing exist or are they all pretty much the same materials/quality wise?
2) Try and source a genuine Ford OE exhaust. I assume this'll cost an arm, leg and kidney?
3) Grab a stainless steel system, either off the shelf or custom. I think Piper offer a 2-box stainless system (so OE equivalent) for about £450.
Any advice gladly accepted

1. After market exhausts are OK - not great quality - but not bad. Fit is the problem normally - they just don't seem to be the right shape.
2. Yeah the first OE lasted 12years - so you would expect the second OE one to do the same - but it will be expensive - very expensive (plus it may outlast the car - so a waste of money).
3. Stainless systems - are mostly sporty and noisey - my problem with stainless - is they crack if not mounted properly.
If it was my 12 year old focus - it would be getting a patern exhaust ex my local motor factors (EU Linco would be my first port of call) ask for a "good one".

I'd scour ebay for an OE back box removed to fit a "performance" one then stored for years under a bench.

Had a stainless system fitted to my ‘performance’ Ford Cortina est….after the oem one rusted thru.
Had it on for about three months then took it off, it was too tinny…
I’ve found most after market systems fit ok, depends on the brand, Bosal, TI Bainbridge et-al…
The usual, pay yer money make yer choice…

Klarius is the supplier we choose mostly for exhausts.

I’d leave it well alone
It could go on for a few more years in that condition
Something about a factory exhaust system
blo*dy tough
Even the ford oe don’t seem as good as factory
Maybe it’s the joints that help rot them out Water collecting at the joints etc Who knows?

I'd give it a wire brush and repaint if need be..
Or leave it be...
When the time comes fit a half decent aftermarket exhaust. Bosal for instance.
