The general repair methods for engines, would be, to bore out the cylinder and fit an oversize piston...but I guess will not be an option..
So depending on wall thickness of the cylinder, it may be possible to bore out the cylinder to take a cast iron sleeve bored internally to match the original piston.
OR, obtain a replacement cylinder....
Final resort, get a new lawn mower...this might be cheaper than pi$$ing about machining and such...

Plus, what else is wrong- why is it scored in the first place? Lack of lubrication presumably, so other items such as con rod, crank etc likely to be damaged too.
Just not worth it on most mowers, as rhyds says.

It it worth just trying to get it as smooth as possible with a cylinder honing tool, nice new piston rings and see if it runs? The compression won’t be amazing but it may still work.
It’s potentially a classic case of massive satisfaction in fixing something but spending more on tools and parts than it’s worth!

Try to work-out why the cylinder wall was scored in the first place - then reassess whether it is worth it to repair or not.
It makes a huge difference as to what sort of engine you have (Briggs & Stratton, etc. etc.) and what age the engine is - some more modern engines are hard to come-by the part you need to repair them - they are designed to throw away!
If the engine is small-capacity, that can also make a big difference. My own experiences at fixing other people's small, petrol engines on chainsaws, etc. is "Don't bother" I would only make the effort on something that was 125cc or more - small & new engines are cheap.
Scoring often comes about from poor oil-servicing, and also lack of attention to the air-filtration, so if the former, the engine might be scrap (as mentioned above, bearings are going to be scored as well with poor oil).

I got two lawnmowers - one small and one big. The small one is honda petrol - bought it from new - little 5.5hp engine is good - always starts - been serviced every season (oil changes & foam filter washed out/oiled). Deck rotted/rusted out - so bought a new deck and full service kit inc sparkplug and new blade (plus I bought a deck wash kit you attach a hose to). Spent all one Sunday morning changing this pre covid. Swapping everything over to the new deck. But to be honest - for less than £30 more I could have bought a new identical Honda mower in the sales - and saved myself all the work. Honda engines are very good. To be honest I have found over the years they tend to last longer than what they are attached to...
