Hi everyone, I have totaly no knowledge in car mechanics. I bought Ford Expedition 2007 many years ago and now told the engine is dying and have to be replaced soon. I was thinking to replace the current engine with more modern one (like Ford Expedition 2015) but I have the following questions: Q1- Should I replace the engine with another modern Ford Expedition engine or should I look for other company like Chevrolet, GMC, Toyota ... etc ? Q2- In case it's better to replace it with Ford Expedition engine, could you specify what is the best model (2015 or 2017 for example)? Q3- In case it's better to replace it with another company engine Chevrolet, GMC, Toyota ... etc, could you specify the brand and the year (Tahoe 2015, Yukon 2017)? Q4- What other things I should change with the proposed engine like gearbox or any mechanical/electrical components ? Q5- Could this process be as cheap as possible?
Thank you all

Thank you all Hi, this is a UK forum and we never got the Expedition here, however I'd suggest the following general answers Q1: Stick to Ford, making any other engine fit will cost a lot for no real benefit Q2: You'll need to ask a Ford Expedition forum about this. My personal advice is replace like-for-like Q3: see Q1 Q4: Depends what else is broken Q5: Its not going to be cheap

The simplest option would be to swap out for a later Ford engine…,,
But that really isn’t a viable option, your current 2007 engine is a 5.4 V8 if I read correctly, then in 2014-15 the power unit was changed to a V6….it’s possible that that engine may not be mechanically compatible, then there are the ancillaries to consider…ecu will be different, wiring for it, 2 less injectors……the list of differences goes on…..
It might be better to just rebuild your existing engine…..

2.33 SAR/Litre Cost of Diesel in Saudi Arabia Today Fuel Type Retail prices (SAR/Litre) Gas Oil / Diesel 0.63 SAR/Litre Unleaded Gasoline 95 2.33 SAR/Litre Gasoline E Plus 91 2.18 SAR/Litre
1 Saudi Riyal equals 0.24 Pound sterling 22 Oct, 15:28 UTC ·
So diesel in Saudi at the pump is: 15.2p (ish) a litre
Someone check my maths please?

If you look at a few enthusiasts forums/magazines (for any make, not just Ford) you’ll see that virtually any engine swap is possible with enough time, money and engineering know how. Whether it is worth it is the bigger question.
Replacing an engine is a significant job, even if swapping like for like. I don’t know what used car values are like in Saudi (and equally important labour costs) but in the UK it would be questionable whether an engine swap in a 2007 vehicle was worth it. That said, it might be worth it if the vehicle is valuable to you either for sentimental reasons or because if does a job others can’t (the Expedition might be regarded as a niche vehicle - biggest SUV ever if I remember rightly).
Swapping the engine becomes exponentially more tricky as the age and manufacturer changes, so I’d go as close as you can. There should be loads of donor F150s and other fords that shared components.
