Hi, I have just bought a V40 D2 and after driving on the motorway for 30 minutes a warning came up saying ‘high engine temperature reduce speed’ the fan comes on but after opened the bonnet the engine doesn’t feel any hotter than it should. Coolant level is spot on when hot and cold and cabin heat is normal. Anyone have any suggestions?

To pin this one down properly, it really needs to go to a garage with a scantool that is able to look at what is happening with the various engine sensors. Although it would be tempting to leap to conclusions on things like "Failing Coolant Temperature Sensor", I would be more inclined to investigate the engine thermostat and coolant-system flows first, as it could be a genuine problem here with the calculated Cylinder Head Temperature value starting to elevate after a few miles of higher-speed driving.
