Hi everyone , iv just had my flywheel and clutch changed on my 2009 Astra 1.9 cdti and after 50 miles of using it when I start it in the morning i can hear something spinning and rattling very loud and it rattles until I pick up speed and gets louder when I put the revs on to move it out of the driveway , I’m worrying I have made a big mistake Choosing the cheapest quote which was £570 ( £300 parts and £270 labour ) any advice would be helpful before I ring the garage please , could it be something else.

Did the repairing garage show you the old flywheel they took out?

No they didn’t it was on its original dmf and the car has 137000 ,also it was a close friend that found the garage for me and his son works there so I don’t think they would rip me off

Could the engine oil effect the flywheel noise as it due an oil change now , it’s been serviced every year since new but the oil is very black and was changed 10000 miles ago

The only connection between flywheel and engine oil is the rear crank seal….if it was failing, then it may have been seen ( oil weep…)when the flywheel was changed….very tenuous tho’…
Without removing the gearbox to check, it’s difficult to diagnose noises…
My suggestion would be take it back to the garage that did the work and explain to them what’s wrong…..

Have you taken the car back to the garage and asked them to diagnose the noise?

Maybe starter catching on the ring gear on the new flywheel?
Maybe they fitted a solid flywheel conversion?

Solved with a gall of 5 *. Oops to expensive E10 and 2 matches…( cut backs you know, need to save for future jobs the price of matches these days)
