Hi, question for all you MOT testers.
I’m owner of a 2007 diesel (Citroen C4), MOT due September.
I have service light always on, no MIL. On the digital display when engine first turned on, it says ‘risk of particle filter blockage’.
I’m hopeful of checking EOLYS and taking the dpf off engine and giving it a thorough clean, but is this likely to be a fail if not sorted?
I understand a blocked dpf will put a strain on the turbo so hoping to sort ASAP. Car has done circa 143,000 miles by the way.
Thanks

How long has the warning light been on?
I’d be worried about £1ks worth of DPF replacement rather tan a £50 mot fail....
It’s not something you can rinse with a hose

I am told that Wynns DPF cleaner (5 litres) is good, soaking it for up to 8 hours in the solution. Before that the service light and warning light has been intermittent for some time.

I would check the eloys fluid before anything, if you do have to renew the fluid you will need suitable diagnostic software to tell the car its been changed and prime the system.
I've just been looking into this as my mates has started giving the warning for it. Nearest main dealer tried having him for £800 to sort it along with some other quite insane stuff on a VHC.
I've had the fluid pouch out of his car today to get the part number and ordered via ebay for under £60
Will prob take 10 mins to fit the new pouch and about the same with the diagnostic scanner.

I got a special white plastic pump kit for filling these bags. Horible sticky stuff that goes into them 9wear gloves it stains your hands). Yeah it is scanner job.

I did it this afternoon, about 15mins in total, told the ecu it had new fluid, reset adaptions and also activated the pump under component testing section. (Can't remember the exact term on the KTS) checked live data for fluid level and it now says 1.1L Erase error codes but one for Ash level in dpf didn't clear. No warning lights on now or any messages of terror flashing up. Hopefully the ash level will reduce with a good drive and it doing its own regeneration. I'm sure you know a lot more about these than me Peter. Hopefully squeeze it in for MOT in the morning now. (Also managed to replace the front anti roll bar linkage that the dealer snagged on their VHC, quoting with a recommendation of replacing both sides for a mere £520

I don't think you'll get the ash level reducing, it's effectively a calculated parameter related to the service life of the DPF, if it's only a low single figure number, I wouldn't worry too much.

Soot is cleared out by re-gen, ash is the small % of that that stays, theoretically enough space for it's accumulation for the "lifetime" of the car... or the end of the warranty whichever comes first

Thanks for all your help.
I guess whoever last replenished the eolys may not have told the ECU it had been done so removing the pouch and checking is the only option. May also get some off car DPF cleaner as above.
Will run scanner and come back with any error codes
