It's not as bad as the headlines would have you believe (is it ever?) Essentially there is a rubber band around the joint of the brake booster, it's been found that this rubber band can hold moisture allowing corrosion to develop which can lead to pin-holes in the brake booster with consequent loss of boost. The work instructions are basically cut off the rubber band, inspect for any rust marks and measure them. If over a certain size and quantity, then the brake booster needs replacing, further, check the measured braking effort in the ESP (ABS in English) if over a specific threshold, then its passes, if not, replace brake booster. We've checked about 50 of our alloted 118, so far, only one needs remedial action.
Also, a lot of the potentially affected vehicles will have taken a one way trip to the scrapyard by now, some of the ones we're checking should have made that journey too....

The headline-press only jump on the bandwagon when the manufacturers come-clean, and actually do a recall.
I know of a lot worse out there, but the manufacturer concerned refused to raise a recall - and I have fixed many of these myself, on that model range affected, after the service brakes lost all boost-assistance for the respective customers.

It's not a recall but a 'goodwill' repair on C class rear subframe corrosion, usually manifesting itself with a detached rear trailing arm. Since this became known about, we've had a steady stream of old snotters brought in for a 'free health check', I'm certain this must have been written about in 'The Times of India' as it's mainly owners originating from that subcontinent that turn up.
Obviously there's no chance of them having the other stuff dome that's identified (oil leaks, corroded brake pipes, brake discs, etc. etc.) because they'll have to pay for that!

Deep joy... the brake booster check & replace as required has now been replaced with SRPC2240, which is basically replace all the brake boosters that were checked and passed as OK anyway! So other than the occasional diag job that has come back because one of the filter-spinners has software'd the f**k out of it and it hasn't fixed it, my life at the moment is essentially replacing airbags or brake boosters on old knackers. Great. Oh, and Motab's whining about things their free car doesn't have, like Carplay, they accept it for a year or two then read 'on the internet' that they should have it but don't and the dealer 'can code it in for free' - which is of course total cr@p - there are a few that have it on the datacard but not on the string coding, by a few, I mean 618 in the UK, all E class 2018MY's - so not Motab A class 20MY's. Of course they won't accept that as an answer, so we (I) have to pi$$ away nearly two hours gathering proof that they can't have what they want, we can't change the coding anyway as it's downloaded from Merc specifically for the VIN, if it's not in. it's not in.
