Ok, bit of a non descriptive title I guess…,,
As the sale of new ic cars is coming to an end ( yes, ok it’s 2030 ish…) Im thinking the Passat is going to be my last new car… So being 3 yrs old and now out of warranty, I’m thinking of buying some tech gear for it.
I’ve managed to swap the rear discs and pads without having to use any electronic gizmo ( might have been easier)…..but things like resetting the service message…( yes can be done without a scanner etc.) but longer term servicing/repairs might be a bit more challenging.
So I’m looking at a scan tool that will do what I need.. Thinking the Ross-tech Vcds interface for £225……
Any thoughts? Any cheaper alternatives?
I already have an elm327 jobby with Forscan for the Fiesta, so I don’t need a tool that will do all the cars under the sun…

The Rosstech VCDS base-system for single-user, single car is your ultimate way to go.
There is precious little that the VCDS cannot do, and on a modern. complex car like that, it has the reassurance that nothing will be beyond you in the future.
It is still expensive, for what it is, but if this is really your last car, and you're going to keep it for years to come, then the VCDS is likely to pay for itself. What is more, the support for this system is second-to-none, both through Rosstech and forums such as this; even if you cannot fathom something yourself, there's going to be someone who can tell you a "manual way" of measuring and adjusting something to fix the car.
