Hello,
I have a Citroen C4 Picasso 2015 diesel. I,ve taken my car to many mechanics and no one can figure this out so I thought I'd try here. White smoke and smell emits from my car after I've made multiple short trips. We just took it to France and drove 5hrs to Paris and back and it was fine. The smoke seems to come from the driver's side near the windscreen. My guess is the alternator is working to hard but it's hard to tell and a new alternator would be expensive so I need to know for sure what the problem is before we go and replace it. Any ideas?

All you’ve told us Is that it emits white smoke and smell from near windscreen on drivers side after short journeys. That is insufficient information to form any sort of diagnosis other than “something is not right”.
Is it smoke or is it steam? How much is there? Does it come out continuously after a few minutes driving or do you just get the odd puff? Does it do it when the car is moving or when stopped?
What is the smell like? Burning rubber? Electrical? Chemical? Exhaust fumes?
On the basis of the information provided, there is no more reason to suspect the alternator than any other part.
If you can replicate the symptoms, then take it to a mechanic with clear instructions as to how to recreate the problem.
Without further detail, we don’t stand a chance of helping you.
If you can’t provide further details or reliably recreate the issue, you are likely wasting your time and ours.

So a car that smokes from under the bonnet you decide to drive to France and back in it. Hmmmm  Anyway, my crystal ball is broken, sorry. |

If your not a troll Kate
Find a mechanic who is capable of measuring temperature and current output of the alternator
Also make sure no fluid is leaking into it like oil or coolant
Best advice is don't tell them what you think is wrong, just describe symptoms and let them look at it without any pre conceived ideas and a fresh pair of eyes, they may be looking in completely the wrong place for the smoke/steam!!

Yes it may be due to alternator, you may check by this method. I also faced some sort of issue but my alternator was fine.
