I’ve got some fencing to do. I’ve done a bit before, but it’s always been on the agricultural side of things - posts bashed in and straining wire or rabbit fence type stuff. This time it’s 6x6 panels and posts. Got to be wooden posts (wife’s choice) and might need to use some sort of boards where the levels are different either side of the fence.
Any tips on how to set the posts? I’ve heard and read very conflicting reports about whether posts rot more in concrete. It certainly seems easier and quicker to do using postcrete or similar - spikes or concrete? Post into concrete or metal post holder into concrete? Gravel or not at the bottom of concrete to reduce rotting (if using wooden post directly into concrete)? Post saver type sleeves or bring the concrete up above ground level? Caulk around the edges where the post meets the concrete to stop water running down? This was a new one I’ve only just heard of.

Thanks spud!
I’ve not used concrete before and always just bashed sharpened stakes into the ground or used a spike of some kind.
Just watched a video of someone using postcrete. It looks so much easier and I like the idea of screwing onto the panel to use it as a guide.
I’m tempted to buy a cheap two stroke auger as the ground here in Worcestershire is clay and can be like iron when it gets dry.
