First of all, I am sorry if this is not the right place. This is my first time posting in this forum.
To sum it all up, I have this problem on my Peugeot 308. When I took it to the garage for intermediate maintenance I told them that the car made a strange noise when I drove it with the steering wheel turned to maximum.
After the service they found two things wrong with it:
- the brakes needed to be changed along with the brake pads.
- The stabilizer link bar was out of place and hence the noise when turning the steering wheel.
To change a rear brake pad, the rear brake discs (2) and fix the stabilizer link bar (supposedly I was told it was out of place but not broken) I was charged £410. This price includes 6 hours labour.
Before taking the car to this garage I had asked for advice from another garage who looked at it and could not find any problems. He did not charge me and said the car was perfect.
Today I called the garage that repaired it and I got a different person on the phone (a different person than the one who gave me the invoice). He asked again for explanations about the noise and told me that this "noise" is normal when I turn the steering wheel to the maximum because the pump hits against I don't know what and that this noise is normal. So, I told him that for that normal noise I have been charged £200. (brake pads and discs were £210).
To make matters worse, I asked for last year's invoice because I also had the car repaired by them and I saw that they had already "repaired" the stabilizer link bar last year for considerably less.
My question is... I have already paid the total bill of £520 pounds including the interim service and I don't know what to do to get my money back.
I took the car in at 11am and picked it up at 5pm. It's 7 hours of material time in between and that's the 7 hours of labour they charged me but I doubt very much they spent 7 hours to do these three jobs: change brakes, pads, service and put the bar back in place.
I need advice, please, .... I don't know what to do apart from cry.
I am a foreigner, who has no idea about mechanics (like most of the population) and this stinks that they are laughing at me thinking that I am not going to complain.
thank you very much for everything.
