Thanks guys, the sgs offerings look, good... I had a quick look thru the SGS website - there was a good range from DIY to PRO - low lift and high lift and lifting capacity. Good range - with a price to suit everybody. ------------------------------- Don't buy an alloy race trolley jack - I had one from Germany (not SGS) and it lasted minutes.

I’ve had a Clarke 3 ton one I got from Machine Mart on one of their VAT free things around 15 years ago now.
It’s seen heavy regular DIY use over the years and stood up well. During that time I’ve added oil maybe 3 times and a few weeks ago the handle return spring broke and a replacement cost £1.57 on eBay!
My advice would be ensure you get one with a decent strong handle that combines the lift / lower function. I can’t stand the ones where you have to take the handle out to turn a valve to let it down, and if you try and use the handle to drag it out from under the car it comes out etc- my neighbour has one like that and it really winds me up!

I have had my Kamasa 2tonne since 1984. It has travelled everywhere with me, and still gives good service, even if the peripheral bits like the saddle-pin dropped-off way back in time! The basic construction of it was very good, really tough, unlike the spanners I had from the same manufacturer around the same time! That said, I still have those as well, as they have very useful features such as being just a tiny bit loose on rusty fixings!!

Ive got a Clarke 3 ton Jack at home that's good, I chucked the fast lift pedal away as it just seemed to get in the way.
Also got a Clarke ally trolley jack that will lift 1.5t, it's low entry so ideal for my Escort. That has been great tbh, had to lock tight a few ofnitsbfixings but it's still working some 12-13 years later.
Also have a sealey 2.5ton trolley jack that work no longer needed, manager at the time thought everything looking brand new was good. The ones he had supplied didn't last very long, the old one I claimed is still fine lol
Even got a small black and yellow Halfords trolley jack which tbh is pretty good although again very old now, good thing is uts easily transported.

I love my Majorlift RAC jack (also available in yellow) It comes with an interlock to secure after reaching the required height A saddle extension for 4x4 and vans 2 different rubber lift pads A 2 piece handle for light/heavy applications It does have the unfavoured skinny handles, but this is more about secure storage in the van and weight reduction and does not hinder it's operaton I don't know how much they cost as its an issued item, but I would buy one just on the strength of the locking mechanism and how tough they are www.majorlift.com/special-applications/
