Thing is, Rhubarb, because of the "stupidity" going-on in new-car-world at the moment, AKA "Security Gateways", et. al. .......cars like the little Astra are going to become more, and more valuable.
One example: My "new" Skoda Fabia. It has just come back from "on-loan" to the chappie with that Mondeo-of-Doom. He loved every minute of the car, it started, stopped, and was reliable the whole time. It's on a 51-plate, and the Mondeo is on 14-plate. He almost offered me a straight swap........

It didn’t cost me, not sure if it was a deal with buying a new scanner this year or not, time will tell I guess You can buy a 12+8 FCA bypass cable for about £15. But it does mean you have to strip the glovebox out of every 2018 onwards Fiat 500 to turn the service light off - don't ask me how I know this?

I have one of those cables for my autel 608, not needed to use it in anger yet, to be fair my guys reach for the snap on solus first as it’s easy to use with minimal input thinking from them 😃

The Autocom CDP+ is supposed to have free registration for the FCA, but I haven't had to use this yet..... ......thank the Heavens....... Agree - specialising in Fiat vehicles does not sound my cup of tea. Along with Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Lancia, Dodge, Ram, Abarth and Jeep. I think these are the affected manufacturers for security gateway (SGW) license? As SGW licensesing spreads to other manufacturers! And it will for sure - it will just add cost to the job. Scan tool sellers will find/negotiate deals with manufacturers. Does beg the question? With our exit from Europe and the forthcoming review of Block Exemption Regulations (BER) in May 2023. What the future will hold? My biggest fear is: OTA vehicle software updates (over the air). Cars/vans are gonna update as much/as many times as my smartphone/desktop PC does. Some updates on devices I have - just cause problems and make the kit grind to a halt. Apparantly... There's already been a few OTA updates that's broken stuff - Mercs need a new HDD in the MBUX (and a ~2hr install + nav reinstall) dealer tech mate at a local franchise told me this. Also I read on the internet JLR had a few hiccups with the new Defender but got away with it as it was mostly transparent to the driver save a few odd cases. I would not want to be working in a dealership - while this new tech finds it feet.
