Yes, been there as well, got the T-shirt. Would also like a 5-day week, not 6 or 7. Fat chance.
Working for other people is a far easier option - tell them where to get off when the hours creep upwards without reward.
When I was a bit younger, I had a regular round of ultra-long weeks - every time an engine homologation came round, you could guarantee you needed to cover both early and late-shift on the testbed team, in case anything went wrong (it always did), then you would spend another 2hours afterwards analysing the data. 18hour days, for a fortnight. All on a standard 37-hour wage......happy days..... 
I have been horrifically busy all summer since about late April early May. I done 6/7days a week all summer.
But the clocks have changed - and the weather is on the change - I am not gonna be standing about in the dark and cold much later than 4pm this year if I don't need too...
I wanna keep my hours to about 8am to 4pm this year to match the daylight hours.
