Hi Folks, I just bought a 2013 7 seater mk3 Santa Fe. I need to fit a towbar straight away as we are planning on towing a caravan next weekend. Fitting the towbar will be straight forward but i just have a question on the wiring; are the Santa Fe's already setup to accept the towbar wiring i.e. just route the the cable and plug into a block connector (i have read this online) but in other forums online i have read that it needs to be manual spliced into the electrics like the older installations, does anyone know what the setup is? thanks in advance, Conor.

The tow bar wiring and module is spliced into the existing loom in a rather crude way. You also have to run the power supplies to the battery positive which is fun.

Hi Guys, Thanks for the replies. Now that i have enquired with multiple tow bar suppliers i seem to have two options, there the universal kit which i assume needs to be spiced in or there is a VSK (vehicle specific kit). The vehicle specific kit is significantly dearer but the suppliers have advised me to check whether my vehicle can accept this or not, so i need to look for the appropriate redundant connectors, does anyone know how i can check if my Santa Fe will accept the VSH kit? thanks Conor.

If you look at the fitting instructions that I linked to in my reply, there are pictures that show these connectors, if present, in your vehicle. My advice is: If you have the required connectors present, go for the vehicle specific kit even if its dearer....You are messing with Can Bus signals, botching the job using a general wiring kit could result in damage to the vehicle electrics.........otherwise entrust the work to a reputable tow bar fitter....He then carries all the risk of installing and getting it to work...
