I bought one of these from our favourite auction site not long ago - a sort of "insurance premium" against really bad fixings;
and I have to say, it punches well above its weight. It may well be made by Wang King engineering in the PRC, but so far I have not had it cut-out on me at-all.
Where this has already paid for itself in time-saved is on several really poor applications of Nyloc nuts on suspension components. Three separate nuts on a Disco4 the other day, for example, were all devoided of the stupid nylon that locks the rusted threads just near the end of the bolt/screw, and usually just where something snaps. Just heated the nut until the nylon bubbled-out, got the spanner back onto it, and wound the thing off. These were not small fixings, either, they were M12 and bigger, so for the machine to be able to get in-situ and heat the nuts to a dull glow was quite impressive.
The thing with this machine is that it is cheap enough to be regarded as a consumeable should the inevitable happen and the heating-coil be shorted by accident on any of these jobs.

I been looking at these - is 1000w enough?
I have and aging induction table - for shrinking ring gears on flywheels - it must be from the early 70's - don't use it much now - did at one time.

I been looking at these - is 1000w enough? I have and aging induction table - for shrinking ring gears on flywheels - it must be from the early 70's - don't use it much now - did at one time. Like I mentioned, it seems to punch above its weight - the 1000W seems adequate to be able to get fairly large fixings up to a dark-glow in around 25secs. It seems to hold its power throughout the heating procedure, and I have not had to take it much beyond 35secs for anything yet.
The value of something like this is that you can get into the tight places much easier than hauling a great big lance around. It's a little bit like a small camera on your phone; "The best camera in the bag is the one you have with you when you need it immediately".
The coil I have chosen to use for all the work so-far has been quite durable - seems to survive all the hot plastic dripping over the insulation quite well.

So if you actually accidentally touch the coil on the object you are heating is that shorting the coil? Does that ruin it?

So if you actually accidentally touch the coil on the object you are heating is that shorting the coil? Does that ruin it? If you don't realise that the coil is shorted, yes, this can quickly burn-out the inductor. However, the coil-wire is wrapped in a high-temp insulating sleeving that is designed to prevent the individual coils shorting one to the other. So you can theoretically predict when the coil is likely to be shorted, and throw it in the bin before it does any damage.
By definition, what you are heating is ferrous - these heaters do not work on non-ferrous materials - so it will short the coils if the insulation is damaged.
So, one measure of good-quality on one of these kits is how well the insulating sleeving holds-up against rubbing on the fixing you are heating (anti-tear) and how well it copes with hot debris dripping down onto it and then solidifying or sticking to it - hence why I mentioned it above for this particular machine; the coil I have used up to now seems to be standing-up to its work very well.

I can't remmember the last time I gas cut anything. To be honest - I only really use it for adjusting up poor pattern exhaust pipes. Heating a few stuck fastners - it is handy when you need it. Lot of other heating jobs I do with a standard sievert blow torch fed from a propane bottle.

Normal stuff is easy but tried to get ultrafine filler from Toolstation, nope dangerous goods! Sent me cans of contact cleaner and cutting oil in the same order though.
