I have never used a hand pump oil extractor ever.
I always use the vacuum ones - that run off compressed air.
These are a painfully slow job if the oil is not stinking hot - very thin.
I am not a great fan of "top servicing" - if you can drain the oil out - you get all of it and the carbon debris in the bottom of the sump.

Tbh I only ever drain oil from the sump plug unless it comes in rounded off or plastered in chemical metal or has a random spark plug for a plug. 😆
These pumps are handy for if something has a but too much oil in, or you want to empty a header tank or other similar scenarios.
They are very very good for bleeding diesel filters up.
Spud I might chance a cheaper one and take one for the team so to speak.

We have one of the cheapies in the workshop - use it for emptying PS fluid reservoirs and the like. Probably used it once to suck the hot oil out of an engine (which it did well). It's been going strong for nearly four years now - no complaints. One tip - we store it next to one of the 2-post lift columns and have a hook at head height for the pipe to be held up vertically. That way all the oil drains into the bottle and not on the floor.

I’ve got one of the machine mart spherical type ones and I wouldn’t be without it now. Ironically the one thing I never use it for is draining oil - it’s painfully slow (the one time I tried it!) and I think you’re better using the sump plug. I use it for vacuum bleeding/ changing fluid on brakes, sucking out PAS reservoirs, manky windscreen washer reservoirs etc great for draining the last of the fuel out of a tank.
