Just wondering if there is anything special about adjusting handbrake on this car. It looked like a standard 13 socket adjusted at the handbrake lever inside the car but when I went to tighten it, the nut felt very tight so much so I was afraid I would snap it. It then turned very slightly half a turn and as I pulled the lever up and down it seemed to be coming up very high and then the next pull would be good handbrake, then when released and pulled up again it would be high. It was dark so I didnt stay at and am due to look again. Rear pads are all fine.

Do you mean the parking brake lever comes right up to the stop intermittently
If so it will be one of the pawl ratchet in one of the calipers .
Operate the park brake until you get it On full travel, then jack up the rear and see which caliper isn't holding
The adjustment cable should have x2 nuts together to lock in position

Thanks Karl Yes it is the parking brake lever that is intermittently coming up high but then when I released it and pulled up again it was fine and felt like a really good well adjusted handbrake!!!
There was only one nut and washer on this one - no locking nut.
I will check the caliper operation when I get the car again.
