I am gearing up for MTD (making tax digital).
Anybody know anything about OCR scanners? (I don't).
I reckon I am gonna need a sheet feed one - that takes differing sizes of receipts/invoices - thats the physical bit I understand.
---------------------------
Add this cost to maybe another external hard drive to back this lot up on - another PC - software monthly costs.
I am trying to get my head around making some "right hardware choices first time!"
I sort of got it my head a seperate PC - solely for the task - might keep the error rate down.

With OCR its the software that's most important, with the actual hardware secondary.
What OCR software are you looking at? As for scanners, I'd be surprised if your average Printer/MFP scanner isn't good enough.

I reckon in the end - all invoices will have "bar codes" or something like them? Or the square block things mobile phones scan? (don't know what they are called?)

If you're after an ADF (auto document feeder) most business spec MFPs (printe/scanner combos) will have one these days. The problem is with the explosion in home working its getting hard to find small office/light duty MFPs as stock seems to be quite low. If you already have a decent laser printer then you might be able to get away with one of the cheap inkjet MFPs that come with an auto document feeder to just use as a scanner. I've not actually bought a standalone scanner for years.

But taking into account - I don't go anywhere - not been anywhere more than 2/3 miles from my home in over a year. I have just been to workshop 1.25miles away - dog walking - supermarket - parents house. I have not had a holiday/meal out or been to the pub in 2020. I have not had the need to book in anywhere with a "QR code". I have even reduced my car fleet as I am not using them at all. Put it another way - if "Big Brother" is watching my movements via this app - he is gonna get bored pretty quickly and move onto someone more interesting
