Following on from a recent post about reclaiming my garage from being a household dumping ground i've been in the process of tidying up the tool box. Two drawers full of spanners! 2 sets of standard length combination spanners 1 set of short combination spanners 1 set of double open enders 1 set of deep offset ring spanners 1 set of shallow offset ring spanners 1 set of brake pipe spanners 1 set of torx spanners Most of these are getting ebay'd, other than the speciality stuff i only ever use the standard combi spanners, don't know why i bought so many Wouldn't mind adding a set of the extra long ring (aviation) spanners though will i never learn!

I'm murder for buying sets tbh. At work I have a set of ratchet combi spanners 8-19mm, 2 other sets of combi spanners spanning 7-24mm, set of flare nut spanners, shallow cranked spanners,a set of stubby spanners but the best of the best are the twisted combi spanners, these are so good when you need to put the pressure on. Along with all them there are also loads of additional add ons, for brake pipes, big ratchet spanners, random combi spanners etc. I did buy a set of S shaped metric spanners about 10 years ago and to this day still haven't used them, total pointless purchase. Tempted to bin them. At home 3 sets of combi spanners, set of cranked and a wide array of additional brake pipe, ratchet spanners etc. Don't even ask me about sockets

I don't have many complete sets of anything left whole now.
But I do have the largest oddest selection of loose spanners ever.
God knows where they all come from?

I have 4 large tool box's full and most never get used, even have full sets of whitworth & BSF spanners & sockets from the old days I remember if you had not the right size spanner you would put washers in the jaws to make it fit, good old days. Snowing like mad up here in Sheffield

I also have trouble when buying spanners....
Drawer 1 (my most commonly used): Snap on combination set Gearwrench flex head ratchet set Gearwrench stubby combination set Mac stubby ratchet set Facom half moon set Halfords flare set 2x cheap crows foot sets (open and flare type) plus a selection of larger open crows foot singles Plus a pair (8mm &10mm) of my favorite little Britool spanners and a few other spares
Drawer 2 (less used): Facom aviation set Facom midget set Snap on ultra thin open ended set Gordon offset ring spanner set Gordon open set Blue Point ratcheting crows feet (hardly used!) 36mm Britool combination spanner (I use this for turning the crankshafts over when setting up cam timing) Plus a load of odds and sods (it's a bit like a spanner graveyard in here)
In my trolley: Halfords combination set (6mm to 30mm) Snap on speed spanner set Snap on long ring spanner set Blue point ratchet set

In all seriousness,
I have a full set of combination spanners from the Halfords Pro series.
A set of cranked Metric ring spanners and A/F cranked ring spanners, open ended A/F spanners, combination metric spanner set( cheapo ones), a set of Whitworth combination spanners...and a Britool brake adjusting spanner....
You can never have enough tools....so for the odd size nut/ bolt, I got me adjustable spanner.....and it suits left or righ handed threads of all forms, whether its metric, Whitworth/BSF UNC/UNF or even BA.....ππππππ

When I was 14 (56 now!) and Draper were a good name still, I got a full set of their spannerβs (open end, deep ring and combination- all in metric and AF) and they are still the ones I use daily- on a rack on wall. Donβt think anything modern lasts like that now. And they have been abused too, whacked with a club hammer when needed and so forth!
