Need to fit a clutch to 2000 8v example, but concerned it might need a gearbox too.
Owners prepared to pay for a 2nd hand box if needed.
Will all golf mk 3 (?) boxes fit or need to be specific 2000 8v?
Engine code is ady
Im sure some of the resident vw gurus will know my answer
Ta in advance

Hmmm, I havent got the code or the car yet.
But trying to find a box thats fitted to ady engine seems like rocking horse droppings.
Dont want to fit it twice, but if they all fit then I would be a little more relaxed, even if the gear ratios are a little different. Its only a daily workhorse to and from work etc, so its not out and out performance thats needed, as long as its not too drastic a difference

Have a look in the front page of the service book or on the n/s inside the boot under the carpet and there will be a sticker that says the gearbox code. It'll be an 020 of some description.

I'd be more inclined to get the existing 'box overhauled.

Why does owner think it may need a 'box too? Seen these with worn linkages causing change problems - and a knackered clutch can cause that too. Unless it's noisy?

Unless it's noisy? if it's a rod change, gsf do bush kits for them for around a tenner. the "golf ball" wears badly too, making them very sloppy, but isn't in the kit. wrapping them in insulting tape will work for a while not had any experience of the cable change boxes
