just had a call from an interested buyer for a car, private sale, who wants to pay by credit card through paypal as he's skint,he did call from a house number and when i called back he answered( i know that don't mean much) but his accent was right for the area code, i hate being suspicious of what could be a genuine buyer but if it's a scam i could be out of pocket, should i just leave well alone as i am worried he could do a recall via paypal once he picks car up , in all my years i've only sold one car via a bank transfer and the rest good honest cash, can he make a payment from the card straight into my bank?

I would say a pay pal transaction is much Safer than a cash transaction

is it a sale through ebay? the buyer protection racket means if he opens a dispute, paypal will give him you money. you could get him to send the cash as a gift, and i don't think they can recall that

it is the paypal recall that bothers me the most,it's a classified ad on ebay but no buy it now or bidding, but maybe i should create a buy it now then he would need to pay through his ebay account via paypal, that should give me some protection

if i was doing it would just make a note to put through with the accounts. Money coming in then going straight back out, only taxable on fee if they charged you any I would think but hey, I am not FSA approved

So eBay can pull the deposit if the buyers not happy? I don't quite understand the rules

Joepublic is clued up on this, pretty sure they can say to paypal they dont like it or something and they just take your money and refund it to him no issues and then you have to get the car back. Even if it's a gift I think theres a catch. If it were me, it would be cash or nowt and i'd check the notes

Tell him to go to wonga or payday loans, his cash flow is not your problem. Tell him to paypal to a friend or relative and then bring you the cash
I'd not take paypal for a large amount ever

Not even if the queen asked. Any electronic payment is easily reclaimed. Forget it and move on.
