7 weeks into lockdown - CV19

Well...

Seven weeks into this. It's Sunday and our well spoken PM Boris - speaks at 7pm tonight.

I would guess most of us - have got into the swing of this lockdown thing - one way or another.


Thru treads here - and PM messaging. I have absorbed:

Some of us are going in and out Furlough as our employers needs us - others have been at home on constant Furlough and worry if their job will be there at the end of this. Some of us have even questioned if we want to go back to the job we had!

Others have been going to work - like normal.

A few of us are self employed and have tried to trade - but not done too much. We have had Rates Grants paid out quickly and the Self employed support system has gone live thru Gov.UK - and will depending on when you apply will be paying out before the Government announced it would do.

I know of one person - not on this Forum - who has claimed Universal Credit and has received money and rent payments. This I believe was processed quickly.



I personally have reached the point of frustration with this - I think they have a name for it "lockdown fatigue".


I am also not expecting too much this evening from Boris. Hold tight for a little longer I think his message will be. Truthfully what can he do at this point.


But I wanna focus on some positive points.

1. Most of us have had our incomes protected - also the self employed are getting cash handouts (I was not expecting anything).

2. None of us here - have reported any ill health due to the virus.

3. Wifey has just done me a huge Sunday morning fry up - one lonely burger left from Fridays VE day BBQ - black pudding - sausage - bacon - eggs - baked beans - fried new potatoes - mushrooms.

Ive been working busier than i thought id be at the start of this but still not normal few people want me to go through there terrace houses to work but sod that ! so so many more people out and about i feel more anxious working in front gardens than i did people just dont seam to feel the need to keep away and if im cutting a hedge an they approach from behind so i cant get out of there way either !

Still working feeding the nation.

Partner now has her laptop to work from home but is frustrated with the lack of work / in despair with isolation due to her asthma.

When people’s parked up cars won’t start there will be a shortage of batteries worldwide.

The extended mots will create a glut of failures leading to a potential “scrappage scheme” as the money to repair just won’t add up

We’re now quite good at distancing and I can see more and more opening up with the exemption of dining and pubs

The nhs has a database of how to treat the disease and the majority will have only slight symptoms anyway

I think that Boris knows he's got announce something good, but expectations from the public are already too high.

He will announce some slight relaxations, but not enough, if my antennae are working properly, and there is going to be some public disobedience, no doubt.

Small businesses have had to carry the can for a lot of this, and they are suffering from the restrictions of materials and manpower. So I think there will be a strong lobby to get Britain back to work by the end of this month, otherwise all the useless government schemes are going to count for nothing - small businesses don't have the staff to chase grants and paperwork, and they will struggle financially to stay viable.

The issue that appears to be No.1 at the moment is a reluctance from the public in general to go back to work, for whatever reasons. I suspect that more than a few of the furloughed staff of some of these medium/big firms have been enjoying the freedoms of working from home too much, and now they can see what idiots they have been to carry-on slaving in jobs that they never liked in the first place. There could well be a major shake-up in the labour market.

Someone described this as staff getting "addicted to the furlough scheme"....


Who also could blame the workforce at home on pay - the weather has been good - we are being advised to avoid public transport - the news is still full of poor souls dying - kids are not back at school - Unions are questioning the safety of social distancing in the workplace. A good percentage of them - may well be in the mindset that there actually may not be a job for them to go back to.


This is a double edged sword for sure - balancing rebooting the economy versus the obvious health risks involved.


You would have to be fairly dumb to it all - to not have questioned your own work life for a moment or two - at sometime in the last seven weeks.
